Hey knobs. between your and Kempo's latest posts I think a chord might actually be struck.
It's a shame that so much is going wrong at the same time.
As I said in a rant before, I still love the game and the Dev team, but the community team and Mods just aren't doing for me.
First time as far as I can recall that people are unsatisfied with with both gameplay/content and the PR/community stuff. Between the Ask Cryptic and the forum rules it seems that Cryptic is just hurting on multiple fronts, and seeing it come from both of you guys, you for the Ask Cryptic and Kempo for the Rules and Guidelines, is some heavy stuff, and I'm actually a little saddened.
Either way, welcome. Big hugs.

It's very rainy, and rain brings pain, so I'll probably spend a lot of time in the dark with my strat. Ever since I ponied up and bought a les paul, I can't get enough of my strat . . . Bah! Strats are boring. I like Gibson SG's and Les Pauls better. Of course I only have an ESP Les Paul. *dreams of the day he'll own a 57 Goldtop*

Forum Rule: Can you speak English for the non-musically inclined Sorry, all of my artistic abilities are in the martial kind, poetry and sketching. Soo, ummm, what are you guys talking about? I feel like odd man out here.

Soo, ummm, what are you guys talking about? I feel like odd man out here. Strats: Speed is referring to his Fender StratocasterGibson SG: I prefer these over strats. Les Paul: Is most associated with the Gibson but is a general shape of guitar...being more rounded with a cutout at the bottom of the neck. Les Paul was the first...well technically second...to design the electric guitar. 57 Goldtop: If you scroll down a bit on the Gibson Les Paul link you'll see the Goldtop (1952–1958) section. There you will find a picture of the lovely and magnificent '57 Goldtop. EDIT: ESP: I personally own an ESP Eclipse 300 (mine is red) which is actually discontinued now. Also, a little more info you probably don't need but was really fun for me to do. I've since replaced the original humbuckers with Zakk Wylder EMG-81/85 Active Pickups. It sounds so much purtier now! That help??

A strat is a Stratocaster, an iconic guitar seen in the hands of Hendrix, Clapton, Malmsteen, Knopfler, Townsend, Johnson, etc.
SGs are another biggie, played Iommi and Young, among others.
Les Pauls are played by almost everybody else. ;D
There are other brands of course. PRS has been getting huge and I see them everywhere, Schecter, Ibanez, ESP, Peavey, Ernie Ball . . .i could go on all day!
I have an acoutice, an acoustic/electric, and about 20 electrics of all kinds. And am planning on getting a Telecaster this month . . .
Oh - the main differences between strat style and les paul style are pickups and necks. Strats have single coils, which are known to hum but have better range, and les pauls have humbuckers (two coils together in opposition that buck the hum of a single coil) that have less unwanted noise and distort very well. Strats have bolt on necks and les pauls have set necks. Set are widely preferred, but bolt ons definitely have their own bright spots.

I have always wanted to learn to play the guitar, but as with KJ3, my artistry tends to be more in the martial arena.

I like Humbuckers better. So does my soundman. I kept my strat at home all the time because the hum drives him nuts, but lately I took the stance of the musician and said screw the soundman.

I always wanted to learn to play guitar.... I even got a nice one for my birfday when I was a kid, got one of those "learn to play" books and videos as a warm up before taking classes. Sadly I was very undisciplined and got nowhere with it. Would like to pick it up again some time tho, but I think I'm tone deaf (or at least have a completely untrained ear). In the meanwhile, I too am in the Kempo camp of artistry. It was a weird realization too, when I first thought of myself as a martial artist, and making the transition from "I take" to "I am."

I always wanted to learn to play guitar.... I was given a guitar about 10 years ago, fiddled around with it and then set it aside when it didn't grab me. Fast forward to this past January and I was given Guitar Lessons from a close friend to felt I needed a push. Fast forward to today. I love it. I just turned 40 this January, and I kinda wish that I had started 10 years ago, but I'm having a blast. I'd say go for it Pion. Take a months worth of lessons and see where things go. Just my 2 cents. oh, and Welcome speed. I don't know how I could have forgotten to do that...

I taught myself for years. At one point, I met a really good player who gave lessons (and was soon selected as Iced Earth's lead) and I had a few lessons with him.
He had no idea what to do with me. Randy Rhoads is my main influence, and I can play Dee and Diary and all, but there was basic stuff that I had no clue about.
So I went back to doing my own thing. It is a very slow process to do it alone. I recommend finding a good teacher. But one way or the other - play! It's never too late. I'm almost 47, and although I have always tinkered with a guitar, I have only taken it kind of serious for the last 7-8 years.
edit: Oh, and I am an artist . . . or was. Some of you may have seen some of my stuff when it was on the CO boards. But my right hand has been rebuilt twice, and is kinda crippled. My work is pretty heavy handed, so I can't do much at all anymore. I can hold a pick though, and do some limited fingerpicking before I cramp up. As for martial arts, I hold a blue belt in Kenpo and a green belt in arnis . . . though I am out of practice.

When I was in middle school I broke my right wrist. There wasn't any permanent damage, but for the time being I tried learning to draw with my left hand. I kinda got there, and if you're really passionate about relearning, I'm sure you could do it.

Welcome aboard. I had a strat for awhile. Then I decided I was a bassist.
I still love my Washburn XS-5
