While those numbers are somewhat encouraging , it also fails to recognise a couple larger issues :
1. There is no guarantee Cryptic will be purchased by another company .
2. If it is , there is no guarantee that whomever purchases it will continue too support CO and STO .
3. We won't really know what we can or can't look forward too anytime soon . There is no way Cryptic can be self sufficient , and while it's likely STO will continue , CO's future is very much in jeopardy .
Games do shut down . While a terrifying prospect , the possibility of it happening is quite real . I wish the best for Cryptic , and hope they do get a buyer that will continue to support CO , but customers have a right to be worried . Really worried .

Do we even know if Cryptic will keep CO? I think I read that Atari will continue to support and run the current game portfolio.

Until they find a buyer, yeah, but CO is Cryptic's property, they own the Champions IP. Anyway, people can throw around money discussions but we really don't know what's going on behind the scenes. I just hope that Cryptic get's a new publisher that plans on supporting them in everything they do and we get new and more CO for years to come.

I believe Cryptic secured the Star Trek license directly, too - so that should go with them as well.

The news about the impending sale just makes me shake my head in disbelief. I'm going to take a break from the game for a while and see what else is out there.

Great, I have 3 lifetime subs.
1 with a lag-o-rific game I really REALLY enjoyed before F2P. And 2 with a rudderless ship in a storm. 1 of which I am really REALLY am enjoying.

Interesting read, thanks warmancer.
... One of the investor relations people mentioned at the bottom is named Teal. What an unusual name.

Just been reading about Perfect World - it would kinda make sense for them, Forsaken World (signed up to try it a week ago - still downloading as playing CO at same time...) was much more US/Europe focused than their other titles and their PW/FW char creator rivals CO's.
However I've played PW and can confirm that the Item Store in PW is much more of a 'pay-to-win' bias that we are used to here (especially in PvP) and I would only hope they let Cryptic keep to the hybrid model they are currently using.

I just looked at Forsaken World's "talent calculator" .... and HolyJeebus, that game is SUCH a WoW ripoff!!

Well, I hope that's good news for Cryptic. It's got to take some pressure off their shoulders, no one likes to work with an axe hanging over their necks.
I look forward to hearing more about Perfect World. I have no idea if this is a positive move or not for the future of CO.

I'm just a tad hesitant about the news, since the community I've seen from my little time in Perfect World... hopefully the fact that it's a superhero game acts as enough of a buffer. Frankly, if they let Cryptic keep the setup they have going on here, and just let them "bring in the cash," then I think it'll be great.
Last thing I want to see though is some loophole like "Well, since it's rebranded as 'Perfect World Champions Online,' all those previous lifetime subs are WORTHLESS!" That would seriously fry my juevos, though I know it's not exactly like Cryptic can do a lot about that. Heck, with it not being Atari-owned anymore, that alone might be enough for them to back out of lifetime subs.

I highly doubt that would happen simply because bad press would mean less people would want to try their game, which is the opposite of what they want. I'm also hoping the fact that PW has bigger pockets than Atari means both games have a bigger budget to work with in the future

Hmm and what will all of this mean for people's C-Bucks / Atari Tokens or whatever the currency is called ? *innocent whistle*
