The Valve headman himself is doing an AMA on Reddit. Whether you use Reddit or not it's worth a read.

My favorite part from that. Oh and someone downloaded the paid mods to check out the quality. Surprise, surprise, they're bad. imgur.com/gallery/qFlFa

Technically incorrect since mods aren't a part of the original game, but I found it amusing nonetheless.

I wouldn't consider Skyrim to be anything resembling the Mona Lisa either but it gets the point across.

Irony is, in a completely unmodded vanila shape, both Skyrim and Oblivion are pretty poor, boring games when compared to Morrowind.
And better to not compare them with FO3 or New Vegas.
And even then all gamebryo games really need unofficial patches to be appreciated.
So Bethesda should really consider keeping their hands off of the modding scene, because they really can't gain anything real out of this affair. In the worst case scenario it can even hurt modding and without modding their games aren't appealing at all.
I can play Mass Effects with no mods and have fun (can't say the same about the Dragon Age, but all DA games are poorly written pretentional kitsch anyway, so not like mods can help them), but playing anything post-Morrowind with no mods? Lol, nope.

I was able to play through Oblivion without mods but I could see why people would want or in some cases need them. That level scaling thing got nutty at times.
With Skyrim I was only able to get to the part where you brought down that first dragon outside of Whiterun aaaaand then it bugged out and made completing the main story impossible. Took the Unofficial Patch to clear that up.
I think Bethesda should really consider releasing more complete and properly working games instead of bug-ridden messes they slap a $60 price tag on. I'm really worried about how the next TES or Fallout game will turn out given the current state of affairs.

They never really put in the effort since they knew the mod community would fix it for them. The same community they just smashed in the face with a hammer.
Speaking of Fallout, I've been seeing rumblings around that this could be a testbed for FO4 modding. They just used Skyrim since it already has a plethora of established mods and it's an older game so they don't really care if people stop buying it now. They want to see if they can get away paid/exclusive modding. They could also do Day 1 paid mods. Day 1 DLC has already happened, so I can see them doing it. They release the CK/GECK to a handful of high profile modders a few months ahead of launch. They make Day 1 paid mods that can also be put into a Launch Mod Pack.
"Special launch sale! For a limited time, buy the Fallout 4 Mega Pack! Includes the game, DLC #1, and a Debut Mod Pack! All for <insert insane price here>!"
Sure, it might sound conspiracy theory-ish, but a week ago I would have told you that sanctioned paid mods was some crazy conspiracy theory. But yeah, I'm worried bout how it will turn out too.

I completely agree with Megatron here; skyrim is so absolutely terrible; I didn't try it with mods, but it's just so bad, it's bad. Oblivion wasn't much better; but morrowind was such gold. Same for DA, everything about them was just awful. I can see that image above becoming the new standard. That's definitely what CO is.

After the rip off payment rates became common knowledge, Valve did a slight rewording of the Curated Workshop description. Hah.

Valve is now giving out 7 day bans for mod refunds. So you buy a mod. It doesn't work properly or it's just a bad mod and you don't like it. You ask for a refund. They refund you...and then ban you. Wee!

I just can't wrap my head around this. Why ban someone for getting a refund? It's in the FAQ that you can get a refund within the first 24 hours after the purchase, but nowhere does it state that you'll be barred from using the market if you get that refund. I just, why?

Only thing I can't decide about right now is... Pepper or bacon snacks? It's fun to watch nonetheless.

I'm hearing reports from damn near everywhere that Valve has stopped offering paid mods on Steam. Even though there are a few screenshots of the announcement floating around I can't verify it on my end because whenever I visit the workshop to check I see this.

Nice! That got reversed faster than I thought it would. After that AMA with GabeN I was convinced that it was going to stick around for a while. Sometimes I like being proven wrong. This is one of those times.
