I liked the game even when it does not feel D&D at least not the way i used to knew it (Baldur Gate, Neverwinter, etc). The combat looks too action based and only takes spellnames from the D&D I remember. The two real weaknesses I find are: - The character animations, are aweful, never seen something so bad. - Character creator is disapointing, how can the same developers who made CO and STO character creators made that thing?
Except for those 2 topics the game looks very good, but it will not replace CO as my main MMO, I ll just play there from time to time like I do in DCUO, STO, TSW and AoC.

Open beta has been launched folks. It was a rough start with Cryptic having sorely underestimated the popularity of the game. Servers overflowed, login servers crashed. A thousand people had issues with the Cryptic patcher and launcher (WHAT? NO!! NOT THE SAME PATCHER IT USES FOR CO?? YOU DON'T SAY??)
Thankfully, most of it seems to be resolved. Character creation is lacking, but it's just open beta and they're supposed to add more functions to the character creator at later stages. Gameplay itself was quite entertaining for me. I know a lot of people have taken issue with the animations and overall un-D&D gameplay, but I found it all quite entertaining and refreshing. And pvp is an absolute blast.

Gonna give it a shot later on if the queues die down. Not sure which class to play though. I tried a few out in CB (GF, GWF, TR) but didn't really enjoy any of them. GWF was hands down the worst class I've ever played in any MMO ever lol. Might try a cleric, didn't get a chance to try one out.

Thanks for the heads up, guys. I started downloading when I saw Rykage's post.
I played it a bit, both a Wizard and a Rogue. I found it quite fun.
The combat animations looked fine, but I think I know what you're talking about.
It's like the idle animation in the cutscenes. Our characters just stand there awkwardly.
I like how they focused on making fun gameplay instead of sticking to the D&D rule system.
The character creator is limited compared to CO/STO, but it's rich for a D&D game IMHO.
However, I found out they removed Xbox controller support, which is a minor inconvenience.
All in all, I think I'll play this through with 1 character, but my main will be CO.
CO, despite its flaws, is just more of a fun sandbox game to play around with.

Yeah I'm rather irritated with the lack of controller support. The game just feels like it was build around it but I couldn't find how to use my 360 controller.
Still need to play around with the classes a bit more, I just can't find one I like.

I rerolled to Devout Cleric. They are bonkers. As much dps as other classes, with heals built into every one of your abilities. And your basic attack is ranged. I'm sure later on they'll slow down on the dps front, but damn, the first 15 levels on a Cleric were an absolute breeze compared to my Rogue. I can honestly say my Cleric didn't drop below 80% health all through levels 1 to 15.

Neverwinter is such an action RPG it feels like an Xbox Live game. As such, I really hope they put native support back later. --- I really appreciate the continued advice, like the Cleric. I'm seriously excited to try that now, but need to lunch 1st.

Is it a lot like Dragon Age 2? Cause it looks like that.

Is it a lot like Dragon Age 2? Cause it looks like that. I thought about this before replying. It is a bit like Dragon Age 2. (Bioware's old Neverwinter Nights was a lot like Dragon Age 1.) It could also be compared to a 3rd person Diablo 3. --- I'm trying out the Cleric. IMHO it's the best thus far. It's actually ranged with some heals, in a mostly melee game. That combination makes it quite powerful.

I don't see too many similarities between Neverwinter and Dragon Age 2. The environment, backstory etc seems a little familiar, and the skill use system I guess? But the basic combat mechanism itself is completely different.
The combat system of Neverwinter is like Tera. Action combat, with the fps cursor aiming for skills and attacks, but not quite. Once you mouse over an enemy, you can move your mouse a little and the target stays stickied for a short duration, but yeah mostly like Tera if anything.
I honestly like how the combat itself feels...heavy. Like the combat animations and enemies getting hit and stagger animations are really well done. They carry a sense of weight and impact, that I really missed in Guild Wars 2 and Tera.

Hi guys, just a post in case people refer to this thread for advice. I'm changing my stance on classes again. I'm finding Rogues to be awesome at level 10. They get a Stealth skill that is really good for their playstyle. For D&D veterans, it acts like Hide in Plain Sight. So even after combat has started, you can Stealth out of it. Using the special attack during Stealth stuns the enemy. And the stun lasts ALMOST as long as recharging Stealth.

Ranged classes lose their charm past 15 when the enemies get harder, and you realize that you don't have enough stamina to keep dodging or evading all the time, and the most irritating thing is probably that you're locked in place when using any attack. So it's impossible to kite with a ranged class, and thus every fight boils down to you killing probably one enemy before the rest of the group gets in range and starts to pummel you around. You can dodge maybe 3 times before your stamina depletes and then you take a beating.
That's a gamebreaker for me because ranged classes are supposed to have some sort of kite-ability that lets them stay out of harm's way for the most part. Not being able to move while using basic attacks is just bad gameplay for me, hence....I think I'm quitting already heh.

Yeah I noticed that when I tried a CW. The teleport does no good when things can just wait for you to attack and then run up while you're locked in place. Oh and don't feel bad about quitting, I already uninstalled. I couldn't get into any of the classes at all. Voice acting was really bad and the cash shop prices are beyond out of control. Oh well, on to the next game!

I was having trouble trying to stay alive on my CW but then I got the quest for my first companion and picked up the tanking dude. Life got a lot easier after that.
I picked up the cleric companion for my GWF and now I use potions so infrequently I have a HUGE surplus.
