Back in December 16 I had put money on a bet that by the end of December EME would announce going to F2P or B2P. I kinda lost that bet but didn't so I kept my $75 because TERA Korea and Japan did announce their F2P conversion. Now I kinda won it but wont claim a prize because the announcement leaked before January 16, and here it is * Scheduled for FEBRUARY * This is for North America servers handled by En Masse. (Gameforge-Berlin has confirmed very similar changes for EU but that's all I know about them.) LoL at 1:05-1:07 of the video ;D Details can be found here support.enmasse.com/tera/tera-rising-play-for-freeAt present the implementation looks very similar to that done by NHN (the publishers in Korea and Japan) with some tweaks. So far the F2P offering seems extremely generous but I'm still reading the details while at the same time dealing with some daily things I have to do outside the home so if big issues other than this are announced I'll be updating them tonight.

Too slow, son!
So I just studied the 3 columns a little (the 3 account types) - it appears the "Founder" account will be available until F2P gets implemented. From then on thereafter you'll have only Elite and Standard subs.
The benefits present on the Founder will supersede the Elite and Standard ones where applicable (for example baseline character max of 8 per server, account wide unique mount, etc).
I guess depending on how you value those benefits that makes purchasing the game before it actually launches F2P worth it - that'll probably be a personal call. This also seems to apply to people who have purchased the game in the past but are no longer subscribed - they get Founder benefits.
For example; once the F2P launch is made to expand your slots to the max of 8 you'll have to pay per slot regardless of whether you are Elite or Standard. Same thing for number of bank slots.

Yeah that's pretty nuts. Say you bought the game and tried it last summer but stopped. Welp, even if you log in again as a F2P player you'll have the Founder benefits, which supersede some of the Elite benefits.
I think that was a lesson learned from other games that had that "I paid for the game a year ago now I come back F2P and expect me to pay for all the things I already had paid for."
I will admit it felt pretty crummy logging back onto SWTOR and being forced to choose which two characters to play. Which led me to choose none at all.
Hope it pays off for them. I am not going to vouch for many game mechanics or systems but I can confidently go out on a limb and say EME has the most amazing customer support I've seen in any game and that Founder policy follows that line.

They know the right way to go ftp. Not omitting content sets them apart from pretty much all other games that went ftp. But alas I won't be playing this one when it goes ftp, but rather wait for Blade & Soul whenever that comes out.

Just checked my email and it seems my TERA account just got reactivated and is good until the 16th of this month. That's one way to get me back into the swings of things before F2P.

Probably not gonna change your mind but as a former Subber you should be preferred status and have 6 char slots per sever. Thanks for correcting my facts, I let my memory do the talking while running on fumes. To clarify most of the impression (in regards to my return to SWTOR) probably had to do with characters that were locked because of name change requirements, plus the having to choose. So I had two Bounty hunters I reeeeally didn't want to leave out and one Trooper that was a long time toon I couldn't abandon. The Juggernaut and Sorcerer with complete storylines and nice gear and a Sage which was the oldest character but I grew to no longer like the way it looked but couldn't bring myself to delete at level 42. Then the IA I had started, the dark side knight I was mid way through . . . Frankly I was like - some other time. I'm almost positive they will have to rework the F2P / Preferred status limits from their current status quo. So it's not like HAVING to choose two (or 6 as it turns out) that harshed my buzz, it's the sum of all those things. And then when it comes to TERA I've been playing the living *censored* out of that game like I haven't played since way back in WoW. I'm borderline in burnout phase - which is usually followed by a couple of months unannounced sabbatical from gaming before I get back to it but I can feel the fatigue creeping. Today I'll be checking in and out from the EME posts to see if there's a clarification as to whether the game will continue to be available as digital download after February. They did confirm purchasing a box even after Feb will allow "Founder" status, which some people have essentially labeled a B2P approach (which, when you think about it, it sort of is - F2P, B2P AND P2P on an a la carte basis with reasonable sounding offerings - my mind is still struggling to process this). What I'm trying to clarify now is if those boxed sales are until they run out of hardcopy inventory or if they'll continue to be sold like that long term. towershield, yes many in the same situation as you have confirmed the same email. But I'm asking myself why just until Jan 16? Might as well extend people who had Founder status because they tried the game in the past all the way down February. I'll be pushing for that today.

BTW - if it wasn't for me having wayyy too many games backed up and (potentially) 3 MMOs on the go as well as a minecraft addiction I'd seriously be looking into TERA (and maybe TSW).

Hell, I think I've been waiting for that since I worked at Circuit City, which was... five and a half years ago, now? Anyway, this is kinda cool. So, between Guild Wars 2, now this, eventually FF14, and those times when I pay for Star Wars, I sort of wonder when I'll have time for all those single-player games coming out I plan on getting. That's it - I'll be sick from work for a week or so, until I run out of sick days. After that, I'm calling in dead.

Alright the producer has posted a response to some other question that goes like this: "Yes. Buying the game now is a big benefit! Elite isn't meant to be a must have for the game it is meant as a nice bonus. We want standard and elite users to be able to experience TERA fully. If we made Elite must have we might as well have left it as a subscription business. " From a GM ticket: "TERA will no longer be available for Digital Download after we transition to TERA: Rising in February. However, any physical copies that are still on shelves would still provide Founder status if purchased afterward. I believe the reactivation campaign is meant to coincide with our recent news, and allow people to get a headstart into playing just before the transition, as well as possibly purchase game time which would then convert into Elite status. Please let me know if there is anything else I can assist with, and have a great day! “GM Burble” The link to the tiers again support.enmasse.com/tera/tera-rising-play-for-free#What_are_the_different_account_tiers?For reference "Founder" is precisely equivalent to the current status of a subscription. Bottom line it's good for someone who expects to actually play the game more a lot and if they're an altoholic. Otherwise F2P status is perfectly fine with the exception of I have no idea how they will price individual character and bank slots.
