SO. Can anyone verify if the EME version for Tera is still region locked to USA, or are they going to open their servers for other countries after going F2P? Because I cannot stress just how badly I want to play this game

I know this will be an issue for you Rykage - I am not entirely sure about not1setbackwards but check carefully the names of the regions here: This is in regards to En Masse; for Gameforge-Berlin see below them. support.enmasse.com/tera/playing-tera-outside-of-north-americasupport.enmasse.com/tera/will-en-masse-ip-block-based-on-region TERA-EU: Regions blocked by TERA-EU: forum.tera-europe.com/showthread.php?t=135269
Neither India nor Hong Kong are in that list. I downloaded the EU client and tried their English speaking server. Content appears to be identical to the NA client. And likely has vastly superior ping. TERA-EU-F2P: tera-europe.com/tera-club.htmlIn their forums I've seen people reporting normal play from Vietnam Apparently (from looking a the F2P table, the model is the same as the one used in NA. However - people have been known to use proxies. I'd wait for the Game to be truly F2P before trying that in case for some reason it doesn't work. The fact many people in SEA prefer to play in English should really push for the Korea , Japan or at least Taiwan regions to maintain a server in English. This are as things stand now in January. There have been no announcements as to lifting blocks by regions - but I doubt it. If that does change and I learn about it I'll definitely update on it. For the record, TERA-Japan IP blocks NA. Some of this might not be issues of security/server performance alone. There could be agreements in place with regions covered by other publishers.

Hi Dejah, thanks for looking out for those of us in Asia, with your thorough research.
The good news is, I was checking the forums and there are people playing from my current location of Hong Kong, who freaked out a few months ago when there were some connectivity issues.
The bad news is, I noticed this...but I've a measured reaction to it: "En Masse will block IPs based on region. Asia, Africa, Russia, and the Middle East are included on the block list. While we appreciate that there are players in these regions who would enjoy playing on En Masse servers, it's unfortunate that the vast majority of Internet traffic we see from these regions are from cyber-criminals relating to account theft, gold-farming and other hacking behavior."
The funny thing is, I agree that the vast majority of Internet traffic from these regions are cyber-criminals, so I ain't even mad. It's like there's me, in the midst of millions of Chinese gold farmers. Y'know, people ask me what it's like living in China, am I getting oppressed by the Communist government. I'm cool with the government, it leaves me alone, very low income tax actually in Hong Kong. It's the gold farmers that are oppressing me by getting our whole region banned from games. My human rights are being trampled by this army of gold farmers.
Anyway, we'll see what's what when the game goes F2P. No point worrying about it now, but thanks again for that insight, good stuff.

I don't even know why India is IP blocked by EME. We are lazy people, hacking and gold farming is -not- something you'll find an Indian engaging in, simply because it takes too much effort.... They probably just don't want our third world internet nibbling at their bandwidth.

They probably just don't want our third world internet nibbling at their bandwidth. I dunno man. I'd blame Pakistan. But in all seriousness, considering the NA servers are in Chicago (>9,000 miles)and EU are in Frankfurt (<4,000 miles) I can't possibly envision the magnitude of unplayable lag you'd have with the NA ones given you can play free in the EU. I started poking about more in the EU English server more and my Ping easily goes 175-250. I am still debating whether to get their version of the Founder status and try to find myself a cute Swedish nerd gamer cyber-girlfriend (Manti Te'o be damned!!!) For the sake of the EU, many of the things their players often complained about (lack of a novelty store, items, name change services, etc) will be solved with the F2P transition with their cash shop. Also enough people are going back to get Founders or get head-start to get them to open a new server so it's looking good for the EU so far. I think I may have just talked myself into buying the EU version . . . Where is it most likely the nerdy gamer chicks from Sweden roll in MMO's? English or Dutch servers? (Damn you Te'o!!!)

I don't know what kind of lag I'd be playing at. I mean, I have a pretty okay connection, I can play Guild Wars 2 on Crystal Desert at around 150-170ish ms (no idea where GW2 servers are based) without a problem. And I'm used to lagging horribly while playing MMO's. I've been part of an Icecrown Citadel raid in WoW and at the first 4 bosses, I was playing at 3k ms lo0o0o0ol. 0 deaths.

Oh dude, there's no way I could play like that. In fact the 180 EU ping was enough to hold me back from an impulse buy, although I'm gonna save the test characters I made for f2p. Crystal Desert is in Texas - you gotta let me in on the secret.

NA-TERA Announcement is official for February 5th. They put up a little "ambient" cinematic: But the actual details can be found here tera.enmasse.com/news/posts/tera-rising-available-february-5and here tera.enmasse.com/news/posts/founder-status-get-it-while-it-s-hotLake of Tears (actual in game location) as the new PvP server name had been highly requested so many are tickled pink by the announcement. It has been established that character transfers will only be allowed between the existing servers for now so people starting on the new servers will be with a fully new generation and new economy for now. I'm still taking a holiday from games in general but hopefully I'll get over the funk by the 5th. Starting in a fresh server with a fresh generation sounds appealing enough to me. EU-TERA is also being launched on the 5th. I believe they have similar chat restrictions for low levels.

Good. My sub won't expire before then so I won't have a lapse. Now I just need to log in and play a bit more.

You know, I had not thought about that detail but I should have advised to wait till the F2P launch to get the most of the 30 days Elite that came included with the purchase price (and roll on a fresh server).I take that back I read through the Elite benefits once more and they are pretty good for level 60 characters that are dedicated players. Aside from the XP boosts there's not that much that is a "gotta have it" for a new leveling character. They did add one extra week to everyone due to some tech difficulties they had mid month so you should check if your Elite status got those extra 7 days added. I still think the Elite benefits are relatively marginal compared to the Founder status but we'll see once the system comes online. I do know I'd pay for them in gold once the Chronoscrolls get reintroduced.

NA-TERA Announcement is official for February 5th. They put up a little "ambient" cinematic: Damn, I've been sort of taking a break from MMOs as well but its been a while since I've seen such graphics. I'm sort of torn between TSW and GW2 when I play at all (plus occassionally login to CO to disappoint myself), so Im not sure how I'll be able to work TERA into that list. I've barely logged to any game other than TSW in like a month, and only for a few hours a week, if any at that. Still... tempting... *tera-salivates*

Final heads up for those who have any interest in this topic and are in NA (Amazon.com in NA): www.amazon.com/Masse-Entertainment-Inc-41003Tera-Online1/dp/B007RIGE12/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1359723068&sr=8-1&keywords=tera+onlineThat's the digital download of the game for $10 to get Founder benefits, after the 5th only leftover retail copies left around will grant Founders benefits. From there on out it's only "Elite" and "Standard" status. The reason this is relevant is that I SUSPECT character slots will be priced at $10 each. There might be other deals like that from other vendors in other regions so happy hunting. I'm heading to San Francisco for a week so I'm going to miss all the hullabaloo of the F2P launch but I'll likely check in here daily on my iPad (mini- o yeah call me hipster) if people have questions or whatever.

Now that F2P is up and running it seems I'm now on the Tempest Reach server. Here's the server list as I'm seeing it. Tempest Reach - PvE Celestial Hills - RP-PvE Ascension Valley - PvE Lake of Tears - PvP Mount Tyrannas - PvP Populations as of 1am are all Medium to High. And it seems the GMs are having fun. Dracoliths are appearing in places they normally aren't found. This was taking place right outside the main hub city of Velika. At least half a dozen of these world bosses were just wandering around looking to stomp on things. Good times.
