I'm just taking a very unscientific poll here. Now that CO F2P has been in around for a while and many players have tried many, if not all, of the Arches, I would like to know... Of all of the eight Base Silver Arches, which three might be deemed the toughest (dying least often) for PVE solo play and which three would be considered the weakest (falling down on the job often) for the same? www.champions-online-wiki.com/wiki/ArchetypeAlso, rather that create a second query of this type, I guess I should ask now if you could rate the Special Arches in the same way: Which are considered the three toughest for solo and three weakest? As always, your participation is greatly appreciated. Edit: 2011-08-31 I decided to better define toughest and weakest as dying less or more often. Tough guys remain on there feet more often while weaker guys fall down more often. Philosophically speaking, the fellow that falls down a lot but always gets back up is actually the tougher of the two, but my original query was about finding a practical answer not a philosophical one about how a player feel about the Arches he or she has tried.

My beliefs are as follows (sorry if they seem the same, because I do believe in this):
The 3 weakest/most difficult to play ATs for PvE IMHO:
- Blade - Inferno - Soldier
The 3 easiest to play/"strongest" ATs for PvE IMHO:
- Glacier - Behemoth - ...then a pretty big gap to... - Mind
Honourable Mention:
- Teleport...not an AT, but anything with this obviously does a lot better - Vampire device, to make up for the squishy ATs
My rationale, how I weighed my choices, kinda equally distributed across:
- grinding mobs solo - soloing the real tough bosses - soloing 5-man missions - just not dying

My opinion, interpreting PVE as Solo PVE and interpreting 'tough' as defensive:
3 Weakest:
Soldier, Grimoire, Mind
3 Toughest:
Glacier, Behemoth, Beastial (I think Beastial is 'special')
3 Strongest AT overall:
Normal: Fire or Glacier, Specials: Tempest, Void, Inventor
So why do I keep making Blades???

The "Easy Three" taken from the base eight ATs according to me. -Inferno -Mind -Behemoth
The "I aint touchin' em with a stick ever again" from the same pool -Blade -Glacier -Marksman
I have no real opinion about the Grimoire and Soldier
Same categories but using the pool of premium ATs
"Easy 3" -Savage -Devastator -Void
"Aint touchin' em again" -Tempest -Inventor -Specialist
No real opinion -Impulse -Disciple
If I missed any I apologize, I'm working on little rest and even less coffee.

I have a Glacier, an Impulse and a Mind, and find them all very playable. The Glacier for sheer toughness and eventually for attack power; the Impulse is kinda tough and probably the hardest of my 3 to play, but at 17 he still has some powers to make him better; my mind is very fun and very user friendly but not tough at all so a different mindset is required. The Glacier is the best for mob grinding because of survivability. Going to try Inferno next, a WAY different mindset. Glacier tough but not powerful at lower levels Impulse semi-tough and good low level damage powers but energy management is an issue Mind not tough but with healing very survivable, not great damage at low levels but energy is no problem

My best;
Inferno and Soldier simply for their AoE and maintained attacks. They're good at getting things killed off quickly. They're the only ones I've taken to level 20 and above.
So-So: Behemoth, Grimorie, Marksman, and Blade. I found it takes too long to get a mob killed off. And I don't really find the combat mechanics interesting enough. On the other hand, the Blade does get a lot of cool swords.
I've yet to play the Mind and Glacier. I may give them a shot after either giving up on the Grimorie I'm currently trying out, or taking my Inferno through those last few levels to 40.
The game seems pretty well balanced, so I don't think there are any terrible types.

In terms of tough vs squishy, the only two ATs that can really take hits are Glacier and Behemoth. Glacier has a much easier time solo PvE most of the game because it's ranged and gets good AoEs relatively early. Behemoth is does more damage, has knockup/back and defiance is better for lategame super bosses.
Grimoire and Mind have heals, and Grimoire can sigil and let them draw threat, so these are in the middle of the spectrum. Marksman is a less squishy. You can actually become quite tough later on with high dodge and avoidance + gear to boost it. Fair Game on Quarry can also give you a bit more HP killing off henchmen.
Blade is definitely the hardest because you are melee, with a weak cone as your main attack pretty much that the whole game. You really have to be careful to take one groups one at a time. Inferno is slightly better because you have some range and energy management is easier. Soldier is pretty similar to inferno, but at least you can sometimes save yourself with a smoke grenade.
I haven't played most of the Paid ATs, I doubt anybody has since Gold would rather freeform, and it's a waste to buy too many premium ATs. The only one i've tried is Devastator, and although it's quite squishy, having a REC ss lets you tele straight up to villains, and finish them really quickly. Similar to Blade, but less energy management issues.

Mind is the single-best solo AT by far, without contest. Ok, the skill cap is kind of high, and he doesn't solo anything *fast*, but he can solo stuff other ATs can only dream of. Kigatilik? Done it. Elite Viper's Nest? I've gotten so close, but my hand cramps up because the boss fights take so long - doable with perfect play. I wouldn't even try either of those with any other archetype.
Agree with behemoth also being pretty good for solo play.
Glacier is probably the other in a top 3, whether its better than the behemoth or not i don't know. I have not been impressed by a glacier's ability to hold aggro in team play when i've teamed with them though. Have not played one myself.
(Note: Devastator isn't bad for solo play, but in team play it really needs a good tank so it doesn't have to worry about drawing aggro.)
Can't really say about the worst, that covers my experience with ATs solo.

Glaciers are impressive in PvM, but it's a whole 360-degree turn when it comes to PvP. Ever since I stepped in lvl 35 I could hardly kill anyone in PvP.

I've only got experience with the blade, but seeing so many say that it's squishy. Yup, I agree.

@squirrel, first AT to solo kiga was a soldier On solely the strength of the AT? Soldiers don't have a heal, do they?
