Could u help me? I dont know if i should be the blade because i dont know how good he is in Champions Online. Each Archetype has their strength's & weaknesses so I guess it'll be down to your playing style and what you want out of the character that should inform your decision there. Cradock has written a rather good guide for Blades here: champions-online.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=gameguides&action=display&thread=86 [EDIT - which you posted in - silly me!] I'd try that out and if you don't get on with the character then wipe them and try another archetype. Personally I didn't get on with my Blade despite him putting in the best performance against Black Talon in the Tutorial but I've since realised my playstyle prefers ranged attacks.

Haha, that's awesome! Thanks for the compliment and for trying to spread the word, though. Could u help me? I dont know if i should be the blade because i dont know how good he is in Champions Online. As Supercollide said, it comes down to personal playstyle. If you like doing lots of damage, attacking from close range, and leaving the healing/tanking up to other people, then this Archetype might be perfect for you. On the other hand, if tanking is more your thing, you might wanna instead check out the Glacier, the Behemoth, or even the Savage. Likewise, if you prefer to attack from a distance, then the Soldier, the Inferno, the Marksman, the Tempest, the Void, and the Inventor may be more what you're looking for. If support is your deal, then consider the Mind or the Grimoire. And if you like pets, then perhaps the Void or the Inventor might be more up your ally. If you did enjoy the Blade, then see if the Specialist is right for you, as they're kinda similar. As for the Blade's functionality, they are quite good. They deal awesome DPS, but their downfall is a lack of survivability (I try to account for this with the Talent selections in my guide). They're kinda a glass cannon - able to dish out damage but somewhat unable to take it. However, they do well in PVE - I enjoy playing my Blade, and I rarely die while using him. They also do great in PVP, as they rapidly dish out damage and they have two PHENOMENAL powers - Thunderbolt Lunge (which also stuns under the right conditions) and Shuriken Throw (with the Chained Kunai advantage).

I have a quick question - how good is this AT at taking out groups of enemies? I main a marksman and I want to create another one, preferably a melee character.
I know about behemoth being a melee tanker, but it just doesn't sound appealing to me, well... I feel like I'm King Kong? Yes, I tried the behemoth out before. (albeit only past the tutorial stage ._.)
But anyway, as a marksman, killing groups of henchmen with one shot is easy using Torrent of Arrows. But well, to reiterate my question, just how good is the blade at handling them?
Like a group of 2 henchmen + 1 villian, my marksman can take down the 2 henchmen with no difficulty at all, leaving the villian for me to kill. Is the blade able to do that?

I played a blade they do have arc attacks that can hit multiple enemies so its not impossible to do so, just you need to plan the attacks. Its best to get them in a place they must be in front of you. On the plus side they do alot of damage and henchmen rarely last as long as with other AT's.
In your example your best bet is hit all three at once, you damage the villian and kill the henchmen then can turn to finish off the boss.
Like the Soldier its all tactics you want to force them to get into your best situation to do the best damage with less risk for you. But its not a bad class and there is some charm in going in and slashing away as scum with a flashing blade but its not all just stand there are go at it.

just another quick question - cradock, do you recommend having cleaving strikes + r2 reaper's caress instead of r3 reaper's caress? i'm referring to the "updated" one on page 2, whereby crippling challenge is taken away and replaced with r3 reaper's caress.
i'm more a pve guy than pvp, at the very most, the pvp i do is duels and sometimes zombie apocalypse in hero games. i don't go to cage matches so i don't really need any pvp skills whatsoever.
i took a look at the advantage on the co wiki - cone 120 degrees in front of you, uses 21 energy instead and also attacks 5 targets. since it still remains a click power while having the advantage, i get more aoe attacks and can take down my opponents swifter. please correct me if i'm wrong on this aspect.
imo, i feel that the blade is somewhat weak due to it not having enough aoe attacks. i played my blade (so far) up to lvl 17 already, just got the shuriken throw. real useful. i played around with the chain kunai advantage in the powerhouse instance map before undoing it to scything blade rank 2. chain kunai was useful, imo, but only against single targets (those that're hard to take down).
thanks.

In my experience (up to level 33 atm), you don't need any more than the one AoE attack. It doesn't have a cooldown, so why not spam it? And unless you're fighting a very big group, you can even get away with focusing on each target one-by-one. IE you should be doing enough damage that before any one mob hurts you bad you've already taken out his buddies
Chained Kunai is awesome, I recommend you take it soon. Don't worry about its damage, just use it to pull a mob closer when Lunge isn't an option. I agree it's obsolete as far as damage is concerned.
Also, a question for anyone: is Reaper's Embrace the only Blade power that can rupture bleeds?

that's annoying. I keep seeing mentions of rupturing bleeds, but I don't get to do it until I'm at endgame?! Niiiice *sarcastic face*. I'd much rather have that at level 32 than Inexorable Tides!
Speaking of 'Tides, I almost never use that power. I expect it'll get better with ranks, but at rank 1 I find its crowd control capabilities to be nothing to write home about

Yes FotS lasts forever, the extra focus buffs that you get from certain attacks do not though. That chain is pretty much what I use. But sometimes I spam Scything Blade before charging it because the enemy group hasn't congregated in front of me yet. And once you get Dragon's Bite, you'll want to replace Reaper's Caress with it in most situations. I now only use Reaper's Caress if my energy is low at the moment, or if I need a quicker attack

Frankly, it should come earlier than 32 IMO. A LOT earlier.

Level 8, if I understood it right.

I apologize for taking so long to get back to you - I was out of town from Friday through last night, so I just got back and I've since then been working on a rather nasty paper I have to have done by tomorrow, lol. As others have iterated, you really don't need more than one AOE power. In this case, Scything Blade is already a great AOE power in the Blade's arsenal - so you want Reaper's Caress to be an amazing single-target DPS skill rather than another AOE. Also, it's good to look at the energy costs. Scything Blade costs 13-20 energy (the latter number being if you charge it), while Reaper's Caress with Cleaving Strikes costs 35 energy. This means that for the price of one Reaper's Caress with Cleaving Strikes, you can afford two slashes of Scything Blade. So in the end, you're gonna be pumping out more AOE damage with Scything Blade anyways because you'll be using your Energy Builder less. Moreover, Scything Blade does more concentrated damage while Reaper's Caress is a chained move, meaning that it is composed of a sequences of attacks - and in order to reach the most powerful part of the attack, you have to make your way through the two less powerful parts first. So for pure AOE spamming purposes, Scything Blade is the better choice.
