Savage is good for about 30 lvls...resurgence helps with this somewhat....but with no real defense you start to feel the heat when damage really starts pouring in.
As long as you dont plan on tanking and carry some heals you'll be fine.

The claw attacks for supernatural bestial(which the savage uses) feel kind of.. dinky. I tried a clawer and it felt like I was just mashing my keys FOREVER to kill anything. Bite is nice of course..
Just a warning.
And they're right. Regen has a problem. You have an area where you are completely safe. Then a small equilbrium zone which is a bit of a challenge. Then anything above that mark is like regen doesn't exist. However, you could safely solo elite for thirty levels and not notice as long as you don't do anything dumb.
But regen has no "when push comes to shove" setting.

So it will die vs spike damage on elite. The same as the other 80% AT's then.
I wonder where all this ''pvp knowledge'' comes from if its people never showing their face in utc^^"
Cookie said it, as long as you don't make mistake, use your block button nowathen, and use cc well. THe savage is a good class for both.

Well, the same could be said for just about any build before you hit the point where you can stack a thousand defenses. Even defiance has a problem with being dumb if you're low level...
Regen just requires you to be slightly less dumb.

Hi Facchini, If you are thinking about the Savage, perhaps you want to check out the Werewolf device. For your convenience, I put their CO-Wiki entries here so you can do a side-by-side comparison: www.champions-online-wiki.com/wiki/The_Savagewww.champions-online-wiki.com/wiki/Become_Werewolf:_BrownThey're very similar, so maybe it's something you want to think about. The Pros and Cons of both: The Savage Pros: You can choose Resurgence, a very popular power Cons: You have to buy this AT (rather than something else) Werewolf Device Pros: Can get in-game for 150G, adds on top of another AT Cons: You can't get Resurgence IMHO, I like the flexibility of the Become Something Devices. The Werewolf's a pretty good one and it's like an extra powerset on top of a character's normal abilities. I've long been thinking of something like a Behemoth + Werewolf or a Glacier + Arctic Wolf combination, which I think is fun for PvE, PvP, and RP. Just some options. I'm not sure what level your Tempest is, but if it's about level 30, you can quite easily get the 150G or so for a Device in-game and try it out. If it doesn't work, you can always just sell the Device back on Auction.

Basically regen is the turtle tank power...its keep u alive if you have a block regularly...but its ticks get weaker if you block too long.

Shhhh!
I'm trying not to be overly discouraging. We've had enough fair warning, but if they still want to do it they should feel like there is a point. Which there is. Regen is perfectly serviceable. Just not the best of the best. It requires smarter play when things get tough. It'll take you through anything that's supposed to be soloable. Which includes generic leveling content set on elite.
Just that some don't feel this is enough. Which is a fair opinion given how good the other defenses(barring PFF) get compared to regen as you gain more and more levels.

Well, we've said all we can about regen.
I think the major failing point of the savage AT isn't regen. It's the claw attacks. They are just plain awful. I tried it. I made a character around regen and claws and biting. I was ultra bummed. It felt like I took forever to get ANYWHERE. Maybe that was just how much you have to spam the keys, but I felt like I was slogging through mud to do damage.
Then you get bite or massacre. The claw aoe felt so weak that I found myself just biting things one at a time anyway. That actually felt faster than using the aoe.
Crazy stuff. I would be more optimistic if there were better clawing attacks, but bite/masacre is the end of the line. That's it. You've peaked once you get them.

You can't really judge a powerset on the basis of low-level experience. It is certainly possible to build a high-damage bestial toon. It's just not as straightforward as other sets, you have to think about your synergies. It's true that the claw attacks suck early on for AoE, but you can put out very very good single target dps, and the supernatural set offers other possibilities to take care of the AoE needs (Venomous Breath is among the best AoE tools in the game). Example build by Pulsewave: forums.champions-online.com/showthread.php?p=1684669#post1684669

Savage doesn't get those other tools though.
