So hey, looks like Defiance is going full on F2P. www.zam.com/story.html?story=34285I might have to check it out. I played the beta for a bit before launch and it was pretty cool. Didn't want to pay out for the box though which is why I skipped it. Doesn't look like that will be a problem anymore.

Oh wow. The crying going on on their official forums is GOLD. When are people going to learn that F2P doesn't kill games, but that being a bad game will kill your game?

Wow, this is a bit of a surprise. This works out great for me, and for a lot of others here I reckon.
I bought only the basic, entry level product, to remove the experience/EGO cap for free demo players. Because I only play it for its Mad Max-style dynamic events, I never bought the DLCs to unlock more stuff, like swords. However, because I at least bought that starter box (digitally, at a discount, I think I paid US$5 altogether), I get all the bonus items.
Defiance didn't have obvious paywalls. DCUO had paywalls if you really wanted your character to do top tier stuff.
So this is really a pleasant surprise. I'm wondering if they're funded by Syfy as a form of advertising for their TV show.

The only time I've ever encountered a "you must have X DLC" type barrier was when certain weapons dropped. Thankfully the weapons in question were crap so I didn't feel like I was missing out on anything.

Just a heads-up. Season 2 of the show will start in June this year.

Defiance F2P is now live. Or will be live later today. Either way, it's today lol. I won't be diving in just yet though. Going to wait for the initial rush (if there is one) to finish up. Also tomorrow is the start of the STO summer event on Risa. Won't miss that. I'll finish playing around in there before I hit up the Defiance. Otherwise I won't be able to give it my full attention.

Don't jump in just yet. Looks like there's a major gear bug screwing everyone and everything up and there might be a rollback. lolz

Btw, Lantesh, thanks for the heads up. I'll just wait for the dust to settle.
I was curious about making a new character for the sword thing, too. I will wait.

I *think* the major bugs got fixed, but I'm not sure.
I don't know the terminology of the game yet, so forgive me if I get these wrong. I don't really know what they mean.
The bug in question was regarding trading and upgrading weapons. One individual went to upgrade his Zagger, and it transformed from a purple Assassin Zagger into an orange Grenade Zagger. He was less than pleased as I gather that is not supposed to happen. This was happening at large to anyone who did any upgrading. It changed the properties of the weapons.
Another one traded some gun to another person, and gun bugged out and had requirement of over 11,000 EGO rating in order to equip it. I gather that 11k EGO is simply not possible in the game, so it became an unusable weapon.
I believe that it was fixed, but I'm not certain. I do know that they're having some bad server stability issues, so it still isn't advisable to play yet. Anyway, I'll be keeping track of it.

He upgraded his purple to an orange and it changed the weapon type entirely? Ouch. A Zagger is a type of sawed-off shotgun, so it becoming a grenade launcher was probably a pain in the butt. Purple-quality weapons tend to be part of Synergy Sets, equipping mods of particular affixes into weapons with matching affixes grant set bonuses. It's entirely possible the switch screwed up the mods as well. The Ego thing is essentially a sorta player level requirement. Imagine if your piece of Justice gear suddenly required you to be level 400 to equip it.
Talk about game-breaking bugs. Hopefully those get fixed pronto.

Damn, yeah that would put a crimp in my style for sure. Looks like the guy posted a pic of his bugged Zagger gun too. Well, one of them anyway. I guess he had more that were bugged. Didn't post shots of those though.

Looks like they got most of the nasty bugs out of the way. Just some server stability issues left, but it looks good enough that I'm going to dive in.
Just a heads up though. If you don't already have the client installed, they make you install their Trion version of Arc called Glyph. So if you hate Arc, you won't like Glyph either. I checked on Steam to see if I could use that, but I can't find an actual download link there. There is one labelled as a demo version, but I don't know if that's now the full client or what. Anyone happen to know?

All the Kudos to Lantesh for this heads up of not 1, but ongoing free giveaways related to Defiance Season 2. If you play Defiance, Season 2 EGO codes have started. EGO codes give you all kinds of free in game swag. The community is hunting them down and keeping track of them here: forums.defiance.com/showthread.php?161460-Season-Two-Community-Hunt-for-EGO-CodesNOTE: THE CODES ARE ONLY VALID FOR 1 WEEK. Once the next episode comes out, the previous week's code becomes INVALID. Get them ASAP or lose them FOREVER.I've just started replaying, with the Season 2 new missions. I'm actually eager to watch the show now. There were game missions tied to Season 1, but they felt like forced cameos by the show's characters. This time's different. They seem much more closely tied to the show, with new, better characters. One of them just "made me an offer I can't refuse". Intriguing stuff. Moreover, they're really massive, multi-part missions with cut-scenes. It feels like a new main storyline mission. Some are revisits to old areas for good narrative reasons. It's like, "I've played through this, BUT of course that objective has to be around here." I think I just completed the tie-in missions to Episode 2, which hasn't aired yet. Really interested in finding this show locally now.
