Oh by the way I totally forgot. There's a Feature Episode re-run going on right now to celebrate the launch of LoR. It sort of got swept aside in all the Romulan stuff. So if you missed the limited time goodies, you can now get all of them until the re-run ends on June 21. .....provided your number comes up in the queue before 21st June

I know a long queue is bad, but those are impressive numbers.
Considering they're focusing so much on advertising Neverwinter, especially.
Furthermore, I thought a lot of fans were drawn to SWTOR also from ad blitz.
There is a look-in audience, ppl who noticed STO while googling that new film.
But that only accounts for a portion of it. It's the fact that people are willing to queue at all.

STO is having a special summer giveaway where every day starting next week, they will be giving away free C-store items to everyone. sto.perfectworld.com/news/?p=955821All you have to do is log into the game and claim free C-store items each day. PWEBranflakes has stated that it will be things like costume and ships. You read that right. Free costumes and ships from the C-store. Just in case you missed it the first time... FREE COSTUMES AND SHIPS FOR BOTH FEDS AND KDF.Romulan stuff won't be included because it's too new still. But guys. Free C-store stuff for Feds and KDF. Omg. If you play STO at all, don't miss this.

Man, thanks for the heads up. I was going to try STO sooner or later, but might as well make it sooner now.

Just a heads up then. In order to claim certain items in the store, you have to have your character at a certain level. This is how it works even when you pay for things. So for example, let's say you want to buy a T3 ship. You have to have a character at level 30 in order to buy that ship. It's going to be the same for the giveaway as confirmed by Branflakes. They do this on purpose so that people don't buy things and then get upset when they can't use them right away. It makes sense that way, but it can be frustrating for under leveled players.
Now...things like costumes you will be able to get right off the bat. Those have no level requirement since they aren't tied to level progression like ships are. The good news is that you can level very fast in STO. You can probably hit max level in a few days, but that would require skipping most of the story content. It's possible though. It also looks like the types of items being given away will be a sort of ascending scale. So simple things like costumes will be given away on the first day and the larger items like ships would be closer towards the 5th day. So plenty of time to level and all that jazz.
And of course if anyone wants to start up STO, we still have our SECRET fleet up and running. Just hit T2 KDF starbase thanks to Rabbit and Light and we're also working on T1 Mine holding. Open offers to anyone wanting in, just let me or Rabbit know.
Oh and of course, Mac-Awol just came back to join us. Welcome back Mac!

Hi Lantesh, thanks to your recommendation, I finally installed STO.
It was a long process, lots of patching, but a real interesting game.
I just have 2 real questions:
1.) Advice for a new player? What to level? Fast way to level?
2.) How do I use my Xbox controller? It seems only good for the combat sections.
(I had 1 fake question: how do I become a Jedi or Sith?)

Hi Lantesh, thanks to your recommendation, I finally installed STO. It was a long process, lots of patching, but a real interesting game. I just have 2 real questions: 1.) Advice for a new player? What to level? Fast way to level? 2.) How do I use my Xbox controller? It seems only good for the combat sections. (I had 1 fake question: how do I become a Jedi or Sith?) Might be a bit long here, since what you asked is both simple yet complicated lol. Let's see if this works. I'll start with new player advice. First thing is that I would recommend using story missions to level up. They give a ton of exp as well as gear and Bridge Officers to boot. You can also do the Mirror Universe Event when it pops up. It usually pops around once a day and you can find it in your PvE queue menu (one of the buttons underneath your minimap). Next is on ships and your career path. You can fly any style of ship you want regardless of your career and excel in it. Don't feel that you have to fly a Science ship because you picked Science as your career for example. Many Science guys fly escorts or cruisers. It all depends on what playstyle you want in space. Career matters the most when it comes to ground combat. That determines what kits you can use, what captain powers you get, and what kind of Bridge Officers you want to bring with you. Onto gear and equipping yourself. The game's story missions and solo content is all designed to be completed solo with low to average gear. Because of this, don't kill yourself trying to get badass gear in the lower levels. You will be leveling fast anyway, so any badass gear you do get will quickly be tossed aside for higher ranking stuff. Just use whatever gear the game gives you while you level. If you really just hate the gear you've managed to get your hands on, you can pick up some cheap green quality stuff from the Exchange. Again, don't bother with the fancy stuff until you hit level cap. This applies for both ground and space. Ship combat tips 'N stuff. The absolute basic tactics you want to use for ship combat are actually quite simple. Energy weapons (such as Phaser arrays or cannons) deplete shields quickly while kinetic weapons (torpedoes) do massive damage to the ship's hull. So you're basic tactic early on is to get rid of their shields using your phasers and then dropping some photon torpedoes into their nice crunchy exposed hulls. For beginner purposes, that is going to be the basic tactic that you're going to want to build on. As you level up you will get more weapons and skills and stuff to use, but that basic tactic still applies even at max level. One more general tip is to always use the same energy type. If you want to use phasers for example, then make ALL of the weapons on your ship phasers. Don't mix in other types like plasma or disruptors. This is because you want to use energy type specific tactical consoles to boost your damage the most. Also in general, don't mix the actual types of weapons. Like don't have cannons and single beam arrays. Skills you get will use one or the other, but never both. So it's more effective to have a skill set up that affects all your weapons. There are some exceptions to this rule (such as using a dual beam array with cannons) but that's more advanced stuff for when you get into build types. If your ship can't equip cannons, then this is a non-issue. Ship power levels. Your ship has subsystem power levels. Weapons, Shields, Engines, and Auxiliary. Weapons power affects the strength of energy weapons, but does not affect kinetic weapons such as torpedoes or mines. Shields is how strong your shields will be. Engines determines how fast your ship moves and how quickly it turns. Your ships Defense (ability to avoid incoming fire) also scales with the speed your ship moves. So engine power indirectly affects your defense values. Auxiliary is mostly used for science and healing powers. All science powers scale in effectiveness with your Aux levels. Generally speaking, running a balanced load across all subsystems is a bad idea. It means that you will be mediocre in all areas and not really excel in anything. For leveling up, I recommend running full power into your Weapons. As I mentioned earlier, all the mission content in the game is designed to be easy. So you won't need to focus too much on defense and stuff, just roll with full blast weapons to roast NPCs. You can experiment with power levels later in the game and make your own custom power settings to better supplement your playstyle once you have it figured out. Ground combat. Ground combat basically comes down to "Point gun, shoot gun". Throw in some random skills you have once in a while. Not terribly complicated. Space combat is where the complexity is. Vendors. Alright so eventually you're going to need to sell stuff. Your ship has an onboard replicator that you can use to dump your vendor trash into for Energy Credits. Don't do that. It might be convenient, but you get ripped off. It doesn't give you the full value for the item you put into it. Instead, go to a starbase or a cargo ship in Sector Space and sell your loot there. They will give you better prices for your stuff. Oh but don't sell to Ferengi vendors. They rip you off more than the replicator does. That's not a joke either. They seriously do. Tribbles. Fun and furry and make funny noises when you pet them. They can even give you passive combat buffs when used. However, the Klingons aren't totally wrong in hating the little buggers. Do NOT leave any tribbles alone with food in your inventory or your bank. They WILL eat it and they WILL breed. You will open your inventory/bank and see a massive colony of tribbles infesting your stuff. No, I'm not joking. I'm being completely serious here. Okay then so as far as Xbox controller goes, I really don't recommend using one. At least not by itself. Once you get to max level there's just a ton of skills and stuff that need to be used and a keyboard is just easier. You could use a combo of both though. If you really, really want to use one though here are a few link to get it set up: sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=91705&highlight=xbox+controllersto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=456361&highlight=xbox+controllerI've never used an Xbox controller so I can't speak as to how well those settings work. You might have to ask people on the STO forums how to use it. Sorry I can't help you more there. I think that should do it for a quick first timer's guide. Of course always feel free to hit me up in game and I can help you out no problem. I'll also shoot you an invite to the Fleet if you want. Should at least keep you from getting random invites haha.

Oh and for your fake question, since this is Star Trek, I'm sure you can find some sort of temporal or transdimensional anomaly to fall through to become a Jedi or a Sith.

This is really good advice! It sounds a lot like what I should have asked when I first started with CO.
I'm going to test it out now, really interested in continuing to play based on this advice.

Day 5: Free Nebula Class Retrofit and Marauder Flight Deck Cruiser. Nebula is level 40 requirement, Federation only. Marauder is level 40 requirement, KDF only.
Today is the last day of the giveaway. Quite a haul over the last few days. Of course the stuff given away were items that didn't sell well normally, but most of us saw that coming. I won't complain though, free ships and costumes are free.
Edit: It seems that because of the level 40 restriction, they are leaving this open until Monday morning! That means people have all weekend long to level up and claim these free ships. So if you aren't level 40 yet, there's plenty of time for you get these ships.
