Hey all. I have a lvl 15 blade AT. I was playing him and thought to myself "why does blade seem so lame?" I had a blade character in City of heroes and loved him. One of my best Maxed out toons there. But on this game it seems the the blade is TOO slashy. Like a million slashes in a wolverine like barrage. LOL! In city of heroes the blades felt a bit more calculated. I think my problem is that the blade on CO doesn't seem to fit thematically because it seems like I am slashing like crazy whereas in CoH it was like I was one with the sword or something. I dunno. Any takes?

Well dunno about the CoX blade, but the blade here is more a hack & slash kinda guy. More as in the lightning fast ninja theme kinda thing.
If you want a more "calculated" type of swords man then the Devastator would be more like it. It combines "decent" quick attacks ( like the energy builder ) with more "calculated" attacks ( 1.1 sec charge ).
The perfect swordsman would bea combination of both i guess. Still i'd say that the Devastator would be more of what you're seem to be looking for then the "ninja" Blade.

This is more a problem with Archetypes in general then the Blade specifically, I think. The offensive ATs just don't have any defensive powers (except the marksman). The Inferno and Tempest are the same in this regard.

Yeah, overall the katana scrapper was more likeable to me. maybe it's the play style of CO that messes it up. I might try that devastator set someone mentioned...but that means I have to shell out some coin...im still silver lol.

Oh thanks for the Devastator suggestion. It totally brought back the love for blade for me. Not a crazy slash fest.

The major malfunction of the single blade set is that it doesn't use two handed animations with a forward facing stance. A single hand would be fine if it were a sideways stance, perhaps, but then that wouldn't suit the katana. Then again, a two hand hold would only suit certain weapons too.
But then.. choosing one aesthetic to stick to would improve the set vastly. Even if you used a katana with a sideways stance, the set looking more like the characters knows what they are doing with swordplay would be good. As is the stance and style are unrecognizable. Thus it looks like random flailing.

Blade AT is like the melee version of inferno AT, hits hard and dies fast. I have a lvl 40 blade, and most battles against bosses are pretty EXCITING.

What about PvP ? Dabbled with a Blade recently and found that i could only kill avengers only if they were not assisted. I know my damage is too low with only Scything Blade so does it get better or do you only try to assassinate lone avengers at 40 as well ?

Throw some CON on that mug. Fights last a little bit longer of course.
But for me, the only blade I like so far is the Devastator blades. Seems less flailing and more concentrated. I've seen some dual blade toons run decent and no so slash crazy. Ran with a bootleg snake eyes the other day. Wasn't too shabby lookin. I still love Devastators better though.

I've hold about 10 duel contests with prizes, and only blades really get close to winnin it everytime. The combination of stuns, roots, and the insanely powerfull kunai, in combination with 5K crits (yeah, its unfair), is enough to be a great pvp toon
