Hi. I just registered to thank you very much for this guide. It helped me A LOT! I also have one little issue. I can't seem to change the colour of my powers. Is there any reason for that?

I appreciate the tips in the OP. But I have to express my compulsion to level up the standard energy-gain spam attack... Just the rank 2 makes it from 12 to 24 damage... And the rank 1 does fine against normal henchmen... provided they're the last mob up.
So... It's tempting. Is there leeway to get it anyway or is this a very build-centric system where one *censored* up would make my entire character obsolete?

You can always retcon powers and upgrades out, but it costs G, the last upgrade you did is the cheapest to retcon. I realised I'd picked Psionic Healing for my Mind AT and that the 3 sec charge up was crippling so after putting up with it for 3 levels I retconned and swapped it for Empathic Healing. These days I review the build every 5 levels and if I'm unsure about an upgrade I retcon it, add the other upgrades and then decide whether to put it abck or leave it out so it's the cheapest to change. I suspect that over 40 levels this might work out more expensive than an all out retcon but at least that way it's not one big hit. A full retcon of all powers and upgrades at level 40 costs more than the 250G silvers can hold though.

It won't, buuuuuuuut, lvlĂng your energy builder is silly anyway and can better be retconned:)

That kind of dodged the question :/ ok - yes there is leeway. For example if you don't intend to PvP you may not need Crippling Challenge or Nailed to the Ground, that's a potential 5 points saved there. But I'd still argue that ranking the energy builder is not efficient in the long term as frankly most ATs have an alternate energy unlock later and the damage will become very puny very fast. Should that happen I'd retcon it out and spend the Adv point elsewhere. There really is no 'must have' build for any AT though, you are free to make your own and the majority of them will be workable. Cradock's build is just a very efficient and versatile setup for the grimoire and, just like costumes, it's ultimately down to personal choice. For my Grimoire straight away I've opted to ignore his advice about teleport - it's great advice and will really help the build but it doesn't fit the theme of the characters or my playstyle.

Alright, that's fair, thank you. And I do think short term for the moment because my 2 characters happen to be very squishy so it's difficult to get them to an admirable level. Fun now, efficiency later

Thanks for this awesome guide, it was very helpful when I was leveling. IMO people should focus on dex/ego...and then a bit on rec/end/pre. This will help a lot in PVP and PVE. Once I did this, I did double the damage. You'll also heal a lot more too with Crit. With Blue Gear, you should be able to get around: 30% chance to crit/70% bonus damage Once you do this, you'll be able to kill more squishies and damage tanks a lot more...if only I could level up Eldritch Blast to R3.

Cradock,
I like this guide, but even now I still feel my Grimoire needs a tweak or two to make it a little bit tougher. I do not PVP and only PVE as a solo hero, so I'm wondering if switching from the Guardian Role to the Protector Role would be a good option. So far as I can tell the only down side is that Presence increases Threat generation, but as a soloist does that really matter?
Also, I noticed that it says - Maximum energy is reduced 20 points. Does that mean total or per level or per lvl, because per lvl would definitely be a hefty minus. Though it might just mean using the Shift key more often to re-charge.
Thoughts appreciated?

You can't change roles on an Archetype.

Yeah, unfortunately, as PoochieHellhound said, you cannot change Roles when playing an Archetype. This is yet another limitation on Archetypes that exists with the intent to inhibit Archetype usage. So yeah, often times, a different Role would better benefit a certain Archetype, but that Archetype is deliberately designed to function in a role that limits its ability, which then makes Free Forms and their ability to switch Roles much more appealing.
