Free Comic Book Day! I think it happens once a year. Most of the major comic book companies publish a free 1-issue comic. Usually, it's like a preview of an upcoming series or an "entry point" for new readers to an existing popular series.
To give you an idea, here's what I got today:
- From Dark Horse, a new Mike Mignola title called Baltimore - Magic the Gathering: Path of the Planeswalker (has nice art) - Mouse Guard, it's like Rats of NIMH I guess - Super Dinosaur from Image, check it out, it's a T-Rex who wears a harness with bionic arms...that are controlled by his natural small arms using 2 joysticks
I actually bought 3 comics, because I didn't want to take liberties of my local comic book store.
So check it out! On your way back home, there might be a comic store, just stop by and see what they got!

Thanks for the reminder! I bought my son a comic last Saturday and told him to remind me about Free Comic Day. I assume at least a couple of those are kid-friendly (age 6). Super Dinosaur sounds awesome.

I assume at least a couple of those are kid-friendly (age 6). Super Dinosaur sounds awesome. Definitely. From what I saw, there was at least a Spiderman and an Archie comic there. In fact, Marvel was a big contributor, I don't remember if I saw much or any from DC though.

Unfortunately my local comic book store is owned by an individual that has no filter on his mouth, swearing worse than any sailor in front of kids which has cost him a not inconsiderable amount of business. He attributes this to being in a small town in the South rather than his home town of Chicago. I personally cannot believe that manners and common courtesy are concepts that are so different in two such disparate locations. I've met plenty of people from Chicago that have perfectly acceptable manners no matter which region they might currently be in.

I really want that Green Lantern Heroclix piece. I've got most of the older ones from the FCBD. Some of them are even good enough to use in the game. Sometimes, I miss playing every week.

For folks that live in New Jersey, check out... www.allthingsfun.net/The shop owner's name is Ed and even though Free comic book day has passed already I still want to mention his place. Ed's a great guy and even if the chances of finding him even one new costumer online are .0000001 % slim I like helping him out when ever I can BECAUSE he's such a nice guy. He has all kinds of weekly in-store Events. I'm not a big Heroclix guy, but I know how to use them as more than paper weights so I've played once or twice at his shop even though his shop is an hour away from where I live now. Even if you live far, far away, Ed does a pod cast that is worth a listen. IMHO So enough of me plugging a local shop to folks a thousand miles away. ;D

Actually had not heard of this before untill a couple days ago, of course I haven't collected comics since the early 90s...I stopped once I got married...So took my daughter to our nearest one and really had fun. Got to share something I really liked to do. Then to make it a full comic weekend saw Thor yesterday...I really liked the movie.
