My understanding is they want to have some things that are exclusive to the subscription plan, as an incentive to subscribe. If you could purchase everything individually in the C-store, why would anyone subscribe? You still got Freeform. That's more than enough. And free APs

black and white power tinting would be cool.

Color hue customization really should be a part of the archetypes. I like the ideas of basic rainbow pallet colors and/or buying color hues from the shop. My main hero's archetype is the Behemoth, and I HATE the yellow hue of the passive power glow. I would LOVE to be able to change it, or at the very least be able to turn off color hues completely.

I really think this is something for both Silver and Gold to have, this is not the only thing exclusive to gold members anyway. Golds have Extra costume slots per certain toon levels. Extra character slot for every level cap reached for any of their toons. Free Forms. C-Store point stipend. 200,000 Global Resource Limit. And everything here.I really think Hue shift can be sacrificed to silvers without being a major travesty to the game. It would also add more personality to everyone's toon rather than looking the same as everyone else.

Silvers get game content in exchange for keeping the servers populated. Golds get all of the vanity objects plus all of the content. Hue shifting is firmly in the vanity category.
This strikes me as more than fair.

Mostly everything you listed can be purchased separately without a subscription so they aren't exclusive at all. IIRC only the gold limit, freeform and hue shifting cannot be purchased and thus are truly exclusive with no other way of obtaining them. Slots, costumes, APs, and C-store points are all purchaseable.

I do agree that having exclusives for Gold (regardless of whether Silver can purchase them or not) is one of the main draws of Gold but having some limited color customization doesn't seem that bad. Say a basic rainbow or such with just 7 or so shades).
Example: I've been playing with Rabbit recently and he's got an ice character with Phoenix Flight (aside from the cracka-boom) it looks good colored to match the ice. I've considered a similar travel power for a Glacier but if I drop to Silver they will have red flames. It doesn't seem like offering a light blue option would severely mess with Golds.

I don't think hue shift being available to silver would mess with golds at all. I say this solely because I can't recall a single person saying they subbed for hue shifting. Seriously, not one. No one has even mentioned it when discussing why they subbed. It's always the extra slots, extra costume pieces, vet rewards and freeform power selection. No one, even as an aside, seems to mention the hue shift as a reason.
On the flip side of the discussion. Hue shifting, to some already subscribed, is considered part of the freeform character building and not a separate feature.

True. Complete control of powers = Freeform. Though it could be nice to have a small variety for Silver's so you could have a character who's effects wouldn't clash with their costume. As well as recolor travel powers as I mentioned. I'd just hate to see it as a C-Store purchase unless said purchase unlocked black & white recolors.

It'd be nice to have a choice of some basic power hues, particularly for travel powers you have to purchase w/ C-points.
