Hello one an all. Hope this is an appropriate (i.e. relatively sane) question.
Beware my posts, I tend to rattle on and on before getting to the point.
As I state in my introduction, I've been a gamer for 24 years. When getting ready for college, I saw a video game art program. I have truly wanted to make my own games for the longest time, and thus signed up for it.
Mistake for me, as it required a hand drawing class. A hand drawing class that thought assigning 9 drawings on the first day of class for homework would be a good idea. A class with an instructor who placed his own work alongside early Da Vinci and literally said "This is how you should draw."
I can't draw by hand (medical issue), let alone draw at the level of that class. Since the class was required to be in the Video Game Art program, and is required no matter what program you are in to go into computer generated graphics classes, I had to drop my major (and that class).
Now I have two different counselors who brought up an interesting concept I had not thought of, and now want to pursue in earnest. They recommended that I find someone who has already been in those classes, and wants to make games as well, and offer to write the plot and various other literary elements for them. I am actually studying to be writer (my second dream job) and so I do have some experience.
So this is what I was going to ask, and why you just read all that: I'm an idea guy, and really want to try making a game. Is there anywhere to go for this that would get good (and safe) results, and does this seem overly ambitious? (I am aware of searching online, but the results get me nothing but other colleges.)
As a reward for making it to the end of this post, you may have one free pass to Jerry's House of Pain and Waffles. The only place where random acts of violence involving breakfast food is fun! Note: Safety not guaranteed.
