My friend and I are looking for an active supergroup to join, does anyone know of any still pretty active?
I have tried looking in game for any active ones but literally no responses.

You could try Paragon Dawn, i just recently joined them after they were recommended to me by Xstorm, they are still pretty active and are still recruiting as far as i know, you'll probally need to register on their website first and they will contact you quite quickly, they did with me anyway.
Although i've been taking a bit of a break from CO the last week or so i haven't seen many other super groups recruiting, it also depends on what you are looking for, an RP supergroup? if so might be worth hanging out in Club Caprice as theres some RP supergroups who recruit whilst in there too.

Is Patriot Act still around? They were a pretty good SG, and making a dumb 'Murrica-themed costume is always worth 60-90 minutes in the costume creator.
