Well, it'd been 4 years since I did a new build so I figured with all three new consoles finally released it was time to do a refresh that crushes them (even though my old build was still a bit ahead of them). My old build was: XCLIO A380Color Black Case Hec Zephyr 1000W 80 Plus Bronze Certified PSU i7 860 2.8GHZ CPU overclocked to 3.59Ghz (21x171) Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus CPU cooler 8GB of G.Skill 1600Mhz RAM...but I had to underclock it for 24/7 stability (8x171) 2 XFX Radeon 5870 HD 1GB in CrossFireX PNY GTX 460 OC Edition for dedicated hybrid Physx...and some non-crossfire compatible games that favored Nvidia EVGA P55 SLI Motherboard Image gallery for this old bird can be found here: s162.photobucket.com/user/KenpoJuJitsu3/library/My%20Rig%202010It was a sloppy build since the case had zero cable management and it had gotten to the point where I got tired of dealing with games scaling poorly with crossfire, not-supporting crossfire at all or having microstuttering because of AMD's now legendary frame pacing. New 2014 Build. I went with the: Rosewill Thor V-2W case i7 4770K 3.5Ghz CPU currently overclocked to 4.4Ghz Noctua NH-D14 CPU Cooler EVGA Geforce GTX 780 Ti Superclocked with ACX cooler GPU ASUS Maximus VI Extreme Motherboard Some images below: Here she is, all mostly put together. I brought over some of the HDDs, the RAM, the PSU and the 460 from the old build. Contemplating a possible SSD and a likely RAM upgrade... And some other images of Betsy 2014 (don't judge me, I call all of my electronics and my car Betsy for some reason): And some overclocking related images: And a graphic breakdown of the upgrade: I feel like I can squeeze out a little bit more on the OC with another day or two spent on it. Soooooooo... Full gallery with more pics can be found here: s162.photobucket.com/user/KenpoJuJitsu3/library/My%20Rig%202014

Am I seeing that right? Does your system have 5 Hard Drives?

Edit - Never mind the answer is in the details.

Srsly, that's an awesome setup. My favourite part: the topside fan.
You have 5 drives, are you using fancy Raid tricks to load things faster/backup everything?

I've got to say thats one seriously mean looking machine you got there Kenpo, i also had my mouth open wide when i saw the 5 hard drives, thats a hell alot of disk space you got there, plenty of room to store all those games you buy from Steam in the sales

Spent about 2K. I do a full rebuild like this every 4-5 years instead of adding parts gradually. The disk space is not using raid. It's raw storage. Every game I own is generally installed so I can play any of them immediately without waiting for downloading. Then there are redundancies in important files like comic book scans and family photos. Overclocked the GPU yesterday. A stock 780 Ti runs at 875 Mhz, mine runs at 1250 Mhz now. Crushes Metro Last Light so I'm not worried about any games coming out soon giving me a problem.

Nice toy! A machine like these costs at least US$ 5K here, and I'm not including the parts reused as HD`s, mems, power supply, Windows license and peripherals. Only the video card would cost around US$ 1,5K ~ US$ 2K Well, the PS4 is being officially sold for US$ 1,700.00!!!

1st, I like how Kenpo approaches rig-building (and CO character building) with the discipline of a martial artist. Anticipating contingencies and Next Gen games.
Raid 0 is something I tried and my conclusion is that it's a gimmick. The idea was to have 2 drives with the same data so things run faster. It's probably a good thing you didn't go for it because it was theoretically supposed to load games faster, but I feel its benefits are very questionable, while it made me buy a 2nd drive. I'm thinking it was a rumour invented by the hard drive makers to sell double.
The most insane thing is the frames-per-second. I heard Metro was the new Crysis as the benchmark game, but an average of 80+ fps is insane. I don't want to paint you as some mystical fighter like Ryu, but do people who practice martial arts see things faster because of your training? Are you catching flies with chopsticks?
2nd, plinske, man, I forget...are you in Brazil bro?

hmm 2k in $ isn't that bad for such a rig. For that price you can buy a standard store bought desktop here in the Netherlands (woe to those who do that) I'm thinking of getting myself an Alienware laptop for about 2K in €.

Considering that my desktop is 2ndhand, not built for gaming, was very middling when it was built in 2008, and is currently nearing the end, I've been looking around the Interbutts for general pricing on a new rig. Seeing that one can build a great gaming rig for around $2K 'Murican is reassuring, as I am broke.

There is a theory that Sony did this on purpose to take off the brazilians of PlayStation Network, admit it, we have a bad reputation in any game online I feel for you, bro. This is a slight tangent, but this is 1 time where I have to stand up for Sony. Disclaimer: I don't work for Sony. Sometimes Sony is our competitor, sometimes our partner. This is what I learned, talking to a Sony friend and a Brazilian friend over dinner. As Plinske, any of our Brazilian friends, and other players may know, electronics get taxed heavily in Brazil. This is because of a specific government tax as well as a very high retailer mark-up there; to my understanding, it's just always been that way. The Xbox One is also overpriced in Brazil, at around 2,000 Real (US$1,000) IIRC. However, it looks like Sony was especially screwed over, for a reason. Some Brazilian politicians just want Sony to have some PlayStation manufacturing in Brazil (everything's in China). It's creating jobs and improving the economy (good, I understand) via tax-based negotiation tactics (bad bad bad).
