Welcome back! I'm the same way, I kinda have a rotation of games.
Since it's been 2 years, there's been a major update, so as to let you know how you can quickly, easily, cheaply adapt the changes. As you may have noticed from the launcher, CO now brands itself as "Reloaded". Here's what I recommend:
Use a free Retcon on a character, using the awesome guides in the Game Guides sub-forum - if you recall, when you left, characters had 2 Superstats. Now, they have 3. If you used your character as is with just 2 Superstats, you'll find him/her weaker. After Retconning, you'll find yourself more powerful. Don't rush into it, try it on 1 character 1st, but this is definitely something to do to update your character.
Visit the Auction House to update your Gear - you'll find you had less equipment slots than before (used to be 9, now it's 6), but the Gear around now is much better. The Auction House is the simplest way to upgrade from your outdated Gear. Remember to get the right Gear with your new Superstat in mind. You can get Secondary Unique (purple) Gear pretty cheaply (just a few G apiece). For Primary Gear, you may have to settle for Rare (blue) or Green (uncommon) depending on how many Gs you still carry.
R&D have been replaced with slottable Mods - have you played Diablo 3 or DCUO? If so, this is the same thing. Basically, certain Gear has slots for further upgrades called Mods that add on their own bonuses on top. There was a tutorial that I found kinda confusing, but basically, you get a slotted item, you can stick mods in it, which you can remove and replace for a nominal cost.
Those are 3 key points I wished someone told me when I came back, so now I freely share with you. When I returned, I jumped straight into these new queued Alerts, found myself weak, was discouraged and nearly quit again. Then I found out I needed to update my character and Gear just as the game itself was updated, and found her doing much better and more fun to play with. So, just a friendly heads up to welcome you back with!
