Ok so for crafting I chose Arms because on the wiki it said that it was recommended for darkness characters. Now, I dont realy understand the crafting in this game. I did the little tutorial mission and It hade me create this little ray gun which did nothing then take it apart. im sorry to sound like an idiot but could someone kind of explain how this whole thing works and how I can create equipment? think my crafting skill is ranked 3 as it says 3/400? or is that experience? sorry.

The tutorial there was mostly just to show you how you can create and disassemble items.
To work on your crafting, you'll want to gather item drops that say Arms on them. When you go to the crafting table, you can disassemble the items for components to make other items. Each time you put an item on the disassembly list, it will tell you what you might get out of it. You usually get a quarter to a third of what it lists randomly, rather than all of what's on the list.
To learn new recipes, you can talk to one of the Arms trainers. There's a bunch in MC's training hall where you made the gun, and others scattered around bases in other zones. Pick "Learn new blueprints" and it'll come up with big lists of things you can learn, if your skills are high enough.

I see, thanks. I think I have somewhat of an idea on how this plays out. So basicly I get more and more blueprints, to create more items such as the ray gun which will be needed to make some of the items in some of the other blueprints in order to make the equipment eventually right?

Its not hard most minor items at some point are not useful so stick several on the table and mess around with them. Some items are great I recommend any form of personal shield, healing patches and mine the reverse engineered Qualar mine is fun on henchmen they walk on them and pop sticky goo time. Leaving them helpless for your onslaught.
Once you hit 101 or higher you can snag special cases in the game you find with neat parts and stuff save this up.
And one trick if you find a really good item you have R&D for and can't use research it the rarer the item the higher your ratings go and you score more parts. Insights are used to by some things just so you know and come at different levels of value.
Hope this helps.

Also keep in mind, once you are able to get your particular skill above 200 (which also requires being at least level 21) you will get access to the ability to create Custom items. For example, the first custom item available in the Arms-Fighting Styles category is called Tornado Twister I believe (Secondary Defense). Initially the item will only give a boost to Physical and Energy Defense, though quite a decent one for its level. When you build it, you can choose a Major and a Minor Enhancement for it (check for Unavailable enhancements at your Arms store to see what you have the potential to get, as well as how high your crafting skill level needs to be to get it) if you have learned that particular Enhancement, which will add anything from particular statistic boosts to special attack effects, etc. You can also increase the Rarity of the base item which will give a direct boost to the base Physical and Energy Defense values, but that will also require you to use rarer materials to build it. The choice of Rarity and Enhancements will determine the final bill of materials you need to build the item. Items built this way have the potential to be more powerful than any random or quest-given drop. Note that a custom item cannot be made at all if you don't know the blueprint for at least one Enhancement.
