No. They just made it official that they don't care about non native players on their servers. Same way they'll make it clear they don't want any asian plauers on the US/EU servers later.* *Did not write that without a smirking quite a bit. Yeah - basically, they haven't put in an IP ban, but they added that the Japanese servers are meant for Japanese players, not for anyone else. The guy in charge said he "welcomes players from outside Japan still," but that us evil foreigners are basically the people doing a majority of the lewd Symbol Chat and general hacking and other illicit activities, which might result in an IP ban later down the road, should things not improve on that front. So.... knowing humans the way I do, we'll eventually be IP-banned, because people love pushing the envelope and being jerks, either outside Japan or inside it.

Wait, how do you westernize an action game? There are so many RTS games, but if you also like 17th century background ,you must be interested in Assassin¡¯s Creed Utopia. Most Vita games can be played and ported to ps3. Pso2 will be no exception, the first real portable mmorpg. I counter your question with, why don't they stop making games for ps3 and just make vita games?

Erm they have already did that, They sort of banned overseas players a few weeks ago. When the game launches Feb next year all your accounts will be a go for the western version. Which is an absolute bastard bugger I was enjoying playing a game in my first tongue *and yesh I am fully aware I might have caused the region ban by saying Sonic is a bit *censored* these days to a Sega Dev

Hate necro'ing threads... I think it's actually more accepted to necro the freshly deceased... Anyhoo, just remembered this game after not having internet in the house for over a year, and was kinda shocked to see the PSO2 Facebook page hasn't been updated since September '12, and the wikipedia article simply states the Western release is "delayed". Is a domestic PSO2 a mere pipedream now..? Sure seems like it. .-.

Knowing Sega, they won't import it. Remember, that's the same people who own Sonic and, recently, Atlus.

Probably dead.
I've been checking in on it every one in a while. Ready for some rage? I sure hope so. Here goes!
After delaying the NA version, they decided to release the game on the East Asian markets. The kicker? It's going to have a full, official English localization. That's right. SEGA already has the game fully localized in English and they aren't going to release it here in the West.

Well darn. :< I know they must have their reasons (be they good or bad), but... still, like Towershield, I was really looking forward to playing. Don't like the idea of having to track down English patches and deal with a non-localized build. Was nepht's jab at Sonic the catalyst for all this? XD

Well, we *might* be able to play the East Asian version. Like I said, it's going to have a full English localization but I have no idea what kind of region/IP lockouts they might have. So who knows.
As for the NA version, the reason that SEGA gave for delaying it is because they're concerned about the game's profitability in the western market. I can kind of understand this since the game is very heavy on lottery type cash shop stuff. Way, way beyond the lockboxes that CO/STO/NW have. They also incorporate a lot of Japanese pop culture events (guest appearances from Hatsune Miku, for example) and the like and I think that they aren't sure that stuff would go down well over here. At the same time though they have a good sized NA player base on the existing servers and even went to the great length of making their own English patch. The EP even stated that he was surprised how quickly an English patch was made.
So on one hand I can sort of see why they might be concerned, but on the other Phantasy Star does have quite the following over here. I guess for now we'll just have to see how the East Asian servers turn out.
