Didn't see one, so I figure A Cursed / Scourge guide is better than no guide.
Introduction: Hello, I do not actually play this AT, however I have been playing the game for an extensive period of time, I have fought with and against this AT and I have to say that it offers a unique and fun change to the standard Avenger role. As a pose to simply gunning down enemies from afar, this AT grants large incentives to deal massive damage both at medium and point blank ranges. Over extended bouts, this AT will pull ahead because of it's reliance of damage over time (DOT) effects to slowly weaken and overpower the competition.
You will like this AT if:
- You like Avenger ATs.
- You want to get up close and personal when the need arises.
- You like CCing (crowd controlling) enemies that attack you.
- Deal impressive amounts of damage over time in addition to your ability damage.
Preface: This AT has a rough time, like the Soldier, if you want to PvE and PvP with the same build, with this in mind, I will be explaining a few tips to get around this so that you can switch between the two game types without having to pay a large amount of moola for retcons.
Powers: These powers represent the combination of ranks, advantages, and power choices that you will take for PvP.
Level 1: Infernal Bolts
Level 1: Infernal Blast (R2, Crippling Challenge)
Level 6: Teleport
Level 6: Condemn (Nailed to the Ground, Redemption Denied)
Level 8: Pestilence (R2, R3)
Level 11:Venomous Breath / Vicious Cyclone (Vortex Technique, R2)
Level 14: Ebon Void (R2, R3, Voracious Darkness)
Level 17: Crippling Coils (Barbed Chains) /Locust Swarm
Level 22: Supernatural Power
Level 27: Aspect of the Infernal (R2, R3)
Level 32: Epidemic (R2, R3)
Level 35: Acrobatics (R2, R3)
Level 40: Defile (R2, R3)
2 Advantage Point Remains, I would recommend adding it to a Travel power, however other alternatives exist.
Assuming PvE:
Remove Nailed to the Ground and Crippling Challenge, and allocate the excess points into your Travel Power(s) and / or increasing the ranks of Infernal Blast.
Reasons for Advantage and Power Selection:
Infernal Bolts: Your energy builder, and nothing more, you will not rely on it for damage, only when you need energy.
Infernal Blast : Your Single target damage ability of choice until Defile is available. In PvE do not use Crippling Challenge if you want the target to not attack and kill you. Try and fully charge each attack to apply Deadly Poison to the target, the more you apply, the more damage you will deal. For PvE, you can grab Virulent Propogation to spread poisons across all targets, however with Epidemic and Condemn, it is hardly necessary.
Teleport : Invaluable, of all the travel powers, teleport provides the most utility, and the best method of escaping a bad situation. I use it for both PvE and PvP across all characters. If Teleport is not your style, feel free to get another TP.
Condemn : Your AOE ability, Redemption Denied applies a stun to all surrounding enemies and a paralyze to the primary target, granting it additional utility in PvP, and allowing you to cast abilities free of reprisal in PvE. This ability applies a stack of deadly poison to all targets struck (100% chance if they did not have any deadly poison to begin with, 10% otherwise). Nailed to the Ground allows you to remove TPs from a lot of enemies at once making it quite unique and valuable in PvP, and some PvE encounters.
Pestilence : Your Slotted passive grants a DOT aura effect to all surrounding enemies, it will also increase all damage that you deal with your abilities so it makes sense to rank it up.
Vicious Cyclone: Combined with the Advantage, Vicious Cyclone allows you to draw enemies to you so they suffer from your Pestilence, and are close enough to nuke down with your Epidemic at later levels. Vortex Technique also grants Enraged, which will increase your damage in a pinch so that you your even more effective. The enraged buff can be maintained out of combat easily by maintaining Vicious Cyclone for at least 2 seconds.
Ebon Void : This block will heal you, and with the advantage, provide an increasing amount of damage resistance while struck, combined with the damage and heal retaliation effect from this shield you will be able to turtle up and outlast opponents in PvE and PvP. But it gets better, since they are close to you (and if they aren’t, get close to them) your Pestilence will deal passive periodic damage to your opponents, allowing you to slowly whittle them away while taking no damage yourself.
Crippling Coils : A maintained hold, the longer you maintain the power, the longer the target is paralyzed. With Barbed Chains, you can deal some extra DOT damage in additon to the hold.
Supernatural Power : A great power that scales on Recovery. Whenever you are low on energy, the use of a supernatural power (IE: any of your powers besides block) will activate this passive and give you a quick burst of energy. Combined with Epidemic, you can just spam AOE until the cows come home.
Aspect of the Infernal : More damage, rank it up.
Epidemic : The “I Win” button of this AT, run into a mob of opponents and just eat them alive with this AOE attack. It will also periodically apply Deadly Poison to enemies for each tick of damage they take. Don’t bother taking Outbreak, you will poison your enemies with multiple stacks of Deadly Poison anyway and the more damage you deal with the pulses, the faster they will be dead.
Defile : On single target fights, this is an incredibly potent power as it debuffs the enemy with a ~-10% poison resistance debuff (increasing your toxic damage to the target from all sources). Combined with Deadly Poison, and your other infernal abilities you will deal tremendous amounts of damage to the target.
The differences between these two builds are as follows:
PvP:
- Crippling Challenge in Infernal Blast
- Nailed to the ground in Condemn
PvE:
- R3 in Infernal Blast
- some extra left over Advantage points will be available for distribution as you see fit.
Keep these power choices at the top of the power heap when you purchase new advantages so that you do not need to spend as much gold later on to replace them for PvE and PvP.
Notes for PvP:
- Crippling Challenge is necessary or else your opponent will just block all of your stuff
- Nailed to the Ground is also necessary or else your opponent will just Teleport spam around the arena. Furthermore it provides some decent utility for your teammates.
Talent Choices:
Constitution / Recovery - Quick Recovery
Recovery / Endurance - Amazing Stamina
Consitution / Endurance - Boundless Reserves
Intelligence / Consitution - Healthy Mind
Recovery / Intelligence - Negotiator
Endurance / Intelligence - Investigator
For ATs, talents are gained at Levels 7, 12, 15, 20, 25 and 30. Order does not matter, take whatever you need at the time of picking.
Reasons for these choices: Consitution and Recovery are your Super Stats, Endurance grants more energy from your builder, as well as a greater energy pool to work with, Intelligence is a utility choice that will increase stealth detection, reduce the energy cost of your powers and cause your cooldowns to recharge more quickly.
Even though this AT has Constitution as a SS, you are not a meat shield, it is there to grant you ample health to survive against incidental AOE you might suffer while nuking groups of enemies point blank.
Closing Notes:
I will update this guide as more reputable sources offer their insight!
