Is it just me, or does it seem like most of the Travel Powers don't mesh very well with more than a very small number of archetypes/roleplay ideas?
This all came to me while I was looking at the archetypes and the travel powers, and saw that, while Inferno and Fireflight worked beautifully, nothing else seemed appropriate for travel slot 2. And unless one had a Grimoire or Mind that got Teleport/Flight, the same problem befell a lot of archetypes from an RP perspective.
For example, take the minmaxer's best friend, Teleport. Unless one is some sort of magician or some superscience gadget-guru, there's not much to back up being able to vanish into another plane and reappear somewhere else.
Flight's kinda the same. Sure, everyone wants to pretend they're Superman, but what if you're, say, a Soldier archetype done Punisher-style? Humans can't fly.
And some Archetypes get the inverse, where only one Travel power fits, and ya got no clue what to put for the second without feeling out of place. The Savage is a perfect example of this - its "wild beast-man" attitude is basically a perfect match for Acrobatics, but nothing else fits... Ditto for a Hulk-styled Behemoth and Superjump.
Yeah, I know, this seems kinda silly, but what can I say? I'm a Roleplayer - I like stuff to go well together for characters.
(And it just occured to me that despite having both Tunneling and Earthflight, and elemental powersets for fire and ice that have matching travel-powers, there are no power-combos for elemental manipulation of earth/rock.... probably for the better, else there's be Terra and Toph clones everywhere...)

You could just not take a second TP No but seriously, I get this issue a lot, like for my kinetics hero, only Superspeed fits. I usually resort to taking something useful, like Teleport or Flight, and just not use it in RP.

Its really very dependant on your character concept.
One of my free form characters, who I am thinking about redoing as an AT, is a mutant whose only superpower is the ability to teleport. He uses guns and the like specifically because he lacks other means of dealing with villains.
A soldier or specialist is already using pistols, why not a linethrowing gun (swinging) ?
Even a human character could very well have, "liberated," an experimental anti-grav belt (flight), or something of the sort, from VIPER.
The Behemoth is very strong, even in their legs, acrobatics involves running fast. There is no reason why a Behemoth couldnt have SuperSpeed or Acrobatics.
A, "wild beast-man," might very well have been genetically engineered to have traits from any number of animals, including birds (wing based flight), cheetah/gazelle (superspeed), and any number of bounding animals (super-jump).
Ultimately anyone making concept characters will likely end up making sacrifices. I know that I do. Even so this makes a character MORE interesting to me, not less.

This is pretty interesting discussion. Some time ago before f2p, I decided to make a Sith inspired character. He was using some force powers for range and the laser sword for melee. For travel power I opted to go with teleportation and my reasoning was that at times, he can move so fast that it seems as if he teleported. If you are familiar with DBZ, its the a-moment-movement thing. So yeah, you can certainly make it fit.

Ok for the humans can't fly stick a jetpack on the persons back, the stealth one or double booster or retro you can fly just like the eagles. And its for me the best way for a Soldier and other types to get around the city and choose a landing point. Like my Soldier Black Mamba she has a stealth backpack and I avoid fights I don't have to engage in and likes moving around objects to get cover. So I can preserve health and recover against tougher henchmen. Acrobatics I found better for that and the leaping over that big wall might save your life plus you can buy it up so when your hit you move and jump faster. As for Teleport you can explain that all sorts of ways an inherent mutation you built around, a device in your costume left by your father, an arcane amulet etc. If I could do two powers Acrobatics and Flight would be the best combat combo for a fighting character with martial arts or ranged attacks (machine guns, pistols). But hello Wonder Woman flies so how did she pull that off?

It probably also depends on how you designed your character's appearance. Slap wings on anything and Flight becomes an obvious possibility, for example.

With a Glacier character, I was surprised that Teleport (the Maximiser's best friend) actually made the best Roleplay fit of all the Travel powers. The idea is that she turns into a cold mist and literally leaves enemies in the cold.
What made me think of that was Teleport's visual combination of light-blue aura and transparency effect. When I first read about this power, I imagined some sort of sci-fi Star Trek beaming effect. When I saw it in-game, I thought "ice mist".
Initially, for RP purposes I was going to choose Ice Slide, but found Teleport was a better fit (plus it was free). I experimented with the other Travel powers in the Powerhouse and thought the following:
- Superspeed for Inferno (with its trail-blazing red aura) - Flight for futuristic sci-fi Soldiers (with a jet pack) - Flight also for any sort of winged or arcane character - Acrobatics for bestial Behemoth or Blades, like ninjas

I look at it from a different point of view, the glacier is an endurable, damage-taking class that has no fear of engaging multiple enemies and just offering his hard body to take the damage. He therefore is a rough guy and something like super jump would totally fit in this hard, tough, rough kinda character style, while teleport is more a smooth/light travelpower and your character somehow retreats to another dimension. I would say that teleport doesn't fit to a glacier. But oh well, that might just be me

Having read your replies, I see the difference in our thinking now. I was focused on Powersets rather than Archetypes. Being new to CO, my first impression of the Glacier was Ice powers rather than Super Constitution/Endurance. In my case, I'm playing a (reformed) assassin who's literally a trained as a stone-cold killer. I chose Glacier as that's the closest fit for the Ice attacks, thus Teleport made sense as extending those abilities to transform into a cold mist. If I played a tank with the Glacier, like some sort of Abominable Snowman, I think I'd wholeheartedly agree with your assessment, like with Super Jump to reflect his brute power. However, I reckon a lot of newcomers, drawn by the free-to-play model, will be like me and think of an Archetype based on the Powerset rather than all the details of the build. Hopefully, that'll allow for more creative freedom rather than limiting it.

For the Archtype, any non-elemental, non-flight one would work. Think Naruto (just for a second). Jump one or two story buildings and hop from roof top to roof top. Heck, any martial art's movie or cartoon/comic. Moving faster than a normal person, which is both Acrobatics and Super Speed. Teleport ("They came from the shadows! One second, we were alone. And the next, they were dead!") One of the Naruto characters even dug underground to get at another one from below, like the first or second episode. Short of out-right flight or those powers, it works. And yeah, I saw the Glacier and thought both Iceman and Sub-Zero, too.

I don't know why when RPing you'd be running around with your Travel Power very much.. so it shouldn't be that big of an issue.
