I'm really enjoying the game, but I was hoping that there would be more multi-player than just pvp. Am I missing something or is this just the way things are? My character right now is level 24.

The game has a problem with teaming, since it has little to no challenge that gives incentive, and does not reward teaming enough to make it worthwile most of the time. This is something the devs know and are working on. Archetypes was one step in that direction, giving people roles to encourage teaming, and they will keep adding things that make teaming more fun and worthwile (Or so I heard)

At level 24, you're on the verge of running your first Lairs. Lairs are the main teaming content in the game, and include Stronghold, Project Awakening, Dr. Destroyer's Robot Factory, and many more.

Some missions in the game scale up to a 5-person team if you ever want to take on a mission with friends.
It is true, since missions can be soloed, there is little incentive to team up, and sometimes when there are multiple people in the same map some team members might find themselves sitting on their hands, frustrated and bored, while individuals with some of the most optimized builds blow away entire hard/elite mode pulls before the team can converge on them.
Lairs have measures to incentive teaming and coordination.

The game also has a difficulty slider that lets you increase mission difficulty. So if you join a guild you can ask if anyone around your level wants to team up and do some high difficulty missions.

Thanks for the replies, I'll see if I can find a social guild that'll take me and I'll look forward to the lairs

Adventure packs are the other big source of teaming awesome, since they can be any level and any number of group members, and scale appropriately. If you have 5$ to spare, I highly recommend trying Demonflame, and teaming with some people for it. Doing open missions spontaneously is another good source of some teamy goodness.

I know what you mean, I'm lvl 32 and only group up 1 time, and it was terrible, lack coordination. I'm soloing all the time, kind of lonely.
If you ever find a good super group, hook me up, My char name is Mr. WONDERFUL, handle: Thumpee
