Hi, all. I tried this on the official forums, but didn't get much in the way of responses. I figured I'd see if the fine people here, might have any insights. I'm not an experienced builder, so please excuse any ignorance I may show. I'm interested in a toon that uses HW primarily, with supernatural/sorcery/darkness, thrown into the mix. I don't see a great many obvious synergies as HW seems pretty strongly rooted in the Defiance/Enrage thing. Darkness seemed to have some cool crowd control, and infernal seemed to have some possibilities with fear/toxic debuffs. I've never done sorcery, and it seems to be a bit overwhelming on it's own. I did see some roots and such there that might benefit from the HW knocks. If those options are really gimped, I might be interested in Ice. The crowd control seems like it has possibilities. Id like a survivable PVE solo experience. I don't have tons of free time for extensive teaming. Can anyone offer me any guidance here? Thanks

This is a build I am currently running on one of my characters that seems to match what you are requesting. It is pretty easy to solo all content besides Cosmics with this build. With the TK pass new build options have opened up. Namely for you Ego form if you can make a totally viable HW/Mentalist with ego form that uses enrage(if enrage is your thing), mental discipline(i think) fear and disorientate as ways to lower dmg to yourself.
Id make a support character with a weird stat set up like EGO/PRE and gear dex or Dex/Pre and gear ego.

Hi, thanks for the suggestions. I am a bit inexperienced with building. I have been playing for awhile, but have stuck pretty much to one toon.
Anyhow, I will check out the Mentalist changes, and see what strikes me.
As far as the build goes, I do have some thoughts, and wouldn't mind some feedback.
What about Defiance instead of invulnerability? Defiance has an energy return that could be useful. I would SS CON/INT most likely, and gear for strength and something else. Resurgence scales off of CON, so that would be nice, and Defiance obviously needs it. No Decimate? I thought Lunges were pretty important for Melee? At least to Bring down Fliers and whatnot? That's what I have read anyways, this will be my first non ranged toon.
With all the knockback from HW, how do you keep enemies close enough to your Sigils to benefit?
Which abilities are the main fuel for MSA? Im not seeing too many short cool downs. How good is the energy return from MSA? With the energy return from Defiance, SS INT, and maybe some END or REC gear, and I add Force Sheath, that would prolly make my energy manageable, yes? Then maybe I could get away with swapping MSA for Enrage or something else?
Is imbue in there mainly for crit healing, or is it just kind of a utility power?
I like the build overall. Seems to be a good mix of HW, and Magic type stuff for flavor. My ideas are just to match my own playstyle and such a tad.
Any suggestions or thoughts before I hit Champion Builder? Thanks!!!

Defiance vs INV: Either is fine really, but for most soloing content I feel MUCH more durable with INV. INV: - better vs multiple mobs - Does NOT require SS CON; this allows you to stat more offensively to balance your build - Always at Maximum Defense. Defiance takes time to build up and requires more blocking usually against alpha strikes, whereas with INV you can wade into a large pack with little to no concern. Defiance: - Better vs Big hits/enemies - Bonus Energy - Easier to stack Enrage IF using the actual power "Enrage" - Does NOT require Advantage points
Lunges: In PVE, lunges are worthless against fliers UNLESS you have Nailed to the Ground advantage to STOP them from flying. Otherwise, you Lunge at them for one hit... then fall back to the ground. In PVE, imo Melee NEEDS some form of actual Flight. This solves the problem without needing precious Adv Points AND Power Picks.
To get between targets on the ground quickly as melee, I just have Acrobatics or SSpeed on during combat. This is usually as fast or faster than lunging.
Knockbacks? The HW Powers in my build have NO Knockbacks by design. Only 1 KnockUP.
Energy Management: MSA: Eruption fuels MSA. You will spam it at every opportunity. It stacks Aggressor, refreshes Enrage & MSA, and is also your Highest DPS attack. Unless you have an absurd excess of energy in your build (without needing to be HIT), I would advise to ALWAYS have an energy unlock for every character build. SS INT: This helps MSA and also reduces Cooldowns and Energy usage of powers. Force Sheathe: I forgot to click the Adv. Get it and forget about energy issues when soloing.
Power Rotations: Once you have your energy built up, these are the Power rotations that work well for this build:
1) Turn OFF Energy Builder; Imbue; Sigils; 2a) IF you need to heal BIG: Resurgence or Conviction 2b) IF you need to build Enrage stacks: Full Charged Arc of Ruin 2c) IF you do not need heals AND Enrage is full: Eruption; Turn ON Energy Builder; Cleave; Cleave; Repeat this until Imbue/Sigils are up.
Imbue will Buff your Sigils, then ALSO buff the next power you use in the chain: Heal, Arc, OR Eruption.

Thank you both! Very educational. I haven't dabbled that much with tons of powersets. I tend to focus on one toon at a time. Now when I do make this toon, I have a direction to head while I play with the set and learn.
