My new character is an Impulse, and I am getting used to him. I know my Glacier is supposed to tank in a group, and the Impulse isn't too squishy, but should he try to tank also?

This isn't really a MMO with strict roles as such.
Just try to contribute how you can. Mow over enemies. Keep those enemies from mowing over allies. You have knockback.. so you could try peeling off enemies from the squishy members when it becomes necessary. Just try to use your skills to help the best you can.
It's what makes teaming a bit difficult in CO compared to most other games. Lack of defined roles means there isn't a script to follow.

Another thing that makes teaming difficult for me is the lack of people using voice of any kind..but that's another thread.....

Well, also, I wouldn't suggest trying to tank with an impulse. PFF isn't the best defensive passive around. It's functional.. but.. try not to bite off more than you can chew in a group. You might be able to peel with some knockback, but don't end up as the accidental tank.
It's worse because healing powers don't repair your field. If you are down to your actual HP being knocked off, you're not going to be tanking well at all.

Your best option is to take Kinetic Manipulation and play a support dps role. You can deal respectable damage while supporting your team with Protection Field, IDF etc.

Just made level so KM was the last power I took.

From personal experience, that might be for the best.
I tried PFF. It's actually quite good for the first few levels. The point it clearly starts falling behind is the exact moment you get your second super stat. The other passives start to pull head noticeably. Then you have to consider that PFF has low synergy with defense supports. The most notable is as I already said. If you're at the point where you need a heal.. PFF is already long long gone.

I read so much about how bad PFF was I didn't even think about taking it. I am starting to like my Impulse AT, and it is sufficiently different from my Glacier power wise to be interesting...but I have to remember I no longer have 7k hit points!
