Agreed. The Gold limit is fairly stifling to the game's economy and also more than cumbersome for both the buyer and seller when various workarounds (crafting mats, etc.) have to be used to reach an items fair market value. Contrary to what was believed before, the gold limit did not drop the price on items enough to warrant having the gold limit. This is largely because the gold limit is not universal amount. It just creates a CO version of the 1% thing that's in vogue right now. I'd almost think it actually raised prices, as the "elitist" crowd drove up costs to keep "worthless freeloaders" from buying their stuff.

The prices for things in the AH are definitely lower than they were prior to F2P, but this is likely a combination of several things. 1) Drop tables and rates were adjusted for many things making them more abundant. 2) Silver gold limit affecting what people can sell or buy items for. 3) More players in the game causing more items be generated to sell. 4) People shifting from the AH to zone chat for bartering so people who use the AH are generally trying to make sales that are less lucrative per transaction for more lucrartive from a faster sell rate.

I think it all depends on your style of play. I think that the F2P model works well because for instance, if you don't have the $299 to shell out for a lifetime sub, then you have the monthly options or you can just stay as silver, we all know this. I for one intend on keeping my silver toons silver instead of converting them to gold, that way in the event I can't continue to pay for my sub or rather save up for the lifetime sub, I still have my silver toons to game with. I've bought an adventure pack and few other things that are free for gold members, but since I can see myself playing this game for a REALLY long while I'd rather just become gold. Remember they have to eat and feed their families too. Sorry for such a long post

I would love to see the Silver gold limit removed or adjusted, hell I (as a silver) would pay money to increase my limit. . It is annoying to know that once you near the 250 limit you need to buy either a big ticket item or several trade commodities to not just LOSE the money.

I wonder if setting up the resource limit to work similar to Zone Chat access would work well. After X hours playing the game the cap is raised.
I would assume part of the reason for the cap would be resource farmers and hopefully their "play" habits would get them outed before the cap was raised.

I think people who farm a lot are people who hate poverty, so capping to prevent them from doing that won't work, it would only sent them away to another game. And while no game should be all about farming, I'm one of the few that believes and admits online gaming communities do have a basic necessity for farming (despite me hating it), you need to understand that maybe not in CO but in many games, normal gameplay is next to useless in terms of profit, and once that became a paradigm, gamers became acostumed to farm like there is no tomorrow which rendered them very wealthy and once they got a taste of that, poverty was just unacceptable. I think if the developers want that stuff out of their games, they are gonna have to find a way to make games fun just for the sake of playing them and not for the sake of piling up the wealth, but what I'm saying, in a MMO that sounds like a blasphemy!

True, farming is a necessity in pretty much any RPG.
I remember farming a small area in Ragnarok Online for a fairly common drop with a good sell back. I didn't really find it boring though. But I will admit I only did it a few times when I needed to make some cash pretty quick.
I also remember farming for the stupid Crystals and Golden Icons in the home version of Gauntlet Dark Legacy. I've read that if you search every corner you don't have to re-run any areas to collect all crystals but I've yet to be able to do that.
Not really sure if it counts as farming but the indie game Breath of Death VII had a somewhat funny system. Once you beat X enemies in a dungeon you'd have no more random encounters. Like I said not necessarily farming but I will admit to intentionally getting the counter to zero early on to make wandering dungeons easier.

I must admit that I fall into this camp. After managing to farm close to a hundred stacks of ectos (a rare crafting material used to circumvent the currency limit) in Guild Wars Ive not been happy being "poor" in an MMO. I would not buy or sell in game resources for real money, but I like having a nice stockpile.

I'm supposed to be the ultimate Guildwars gamer in these boards (speaking of self entitlement), when in fact looking at you and cradock, I think I might be the smallest guy in town!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't you get bored to the core farming Ectos in such magnitude, hell, I never managed more than 2 runs in one day without wanting to go hang myself. Your patience is simply undestructable!
