..or does each power have equal amounts of trade offs? I notice ppl will come here and ask what they should pick next. Are there some powers in the game that are not even worth taking at all? If so why do you think the devs put them into the game?

There are powers not worth taking at all. Most were like such at launch - powers that were difficult to balance due to strange secondary effects - Vapor Form is an example. Others were gravely overpowered at launch, but got hit with the ban hammer a little too hard - Mini Mines or Eye Beams being examples of this.
Any given game will never reach balance. There will always be something superior to something else. In this game that is especially true, as you can mix and match powers in more combinations than one can imagine. Therefore, there will never be balance in an MMO, especially not this one.

Ah I see. I remember before F2P when there were alot of powers to choose from (there still are in free form) there were some of those uber powers and then there were power that ppl would ask "why did you take that? That power sucks" I havent PvP in a while, but is the shrink ray and the chainsaw still in the game? I remember those were sooooooo op. lol. I used to get mad at them all the time.

If so why do you think the devs put them into the game? Power Armor Eye-Beams - I gather they are universally panned as pointless. (as per poochie comments I gather they were nerfed post launch) Why put them in - I guess because they should have worked and hopefully they will fix that when they do a pass on the powerset and build the appropriate AT. Overall I think they've done a decent job of keeping some kind of balance, there doesn't seem to be one "Nuke-all don't leave home without it power" (except maybe IDF). Builds tend to be more about maximising synergy and layering damage. So not perfect but considering just how mix & match Freeform can be it works well enough.

Well, I have a diary of my experiences in general.
Getting used to freeform is.. frustrating at first. There are so many options to pick from that it's easy to get lost it them, but you can create any character you can think of. There are also ways to keep that concept effective if you try hard enough.
Though it can be a bummer converting only to find out the things you wanted to use don't work out quite so well. You could research it yourself on the official forum. The opinions there tend to be accurate as far as raw power effectiveness goes. Or you could tell us what you want to use and we'll just tell ya.
