Yes, I have a character named Hurtman (who'll be getting a biographical overhaul soon), and yes, he is becoming real.
Today I dug myself a great big hole. I had a research paper in a class (which I complained about in the What Grinds Your Gears thread), and for it, we had to take the perspective of someone radically different than ourselves. So, I chose the perspective of a real live super hero, costume and all.
The problem: my instructor now wants me to prove I did it by showing up in full costume as Hurtman to class. Needless to say, doing the paper in the first place was difficult, but showing up as Hurtman in class is even worse. It's my last class of the semester, and a couple of students in class want me to actually spend the entire day in full costume.
Why post this here? I just was curious as to how many others have dug themselves into similar holes they had to get out of.

It's my last class of the semester, and a couple of students in class want me to actually spend the entire day in full costume. I have a better idea: volunteer work ...!! Go out, and be an ACTUAL HERO (of the non-vigilante variety), while in full costume. And, have a friend follow you with a video camera. Edit bits of that - and maybe an interview (got any friends taking a journalism class?), both before and after the day - into a video presentation, and arrange to show it in-class some time. Just a few quick ideas for "heroic pursuits" to undertake: - Volunteer at a soup kitchen, for a week.
- Habitats for Humanity; 'nuff said.
- (with police duly informed beforehand, to avoid "awkward" situations) start a one-man anti-littering campaign ... by cleaning up a public park.
And, bonus points if you interview (while in-costume and in-character) a Police officer and/or Firefighter - because, those are two of the biggest REAL-LIFE "Supergroups" on the face of the planet. Complete with instantly-recognisable SG uniforms, too!

Wish I could do some of that for class, but next week is the last time I'll be in this class (hopefully). He just wants verification I actually did what I said, which is patrol my neighborhood in a costume as a superhero.
Besides, I live in a village that doesn't have Habitat for Humanity (which I worked with about 10 years ago), or any soup kitchens. The cleaning the park would be nice, but the local park sits between two government buildings who feel an almost unholy need to keep it clean (I never see anyone so much as sit on the benches there).
Though I will still have the suit after that, so that does give me ideas...

That's a pretty unique situation you got there. I were you? I'd own it. Make it as spectacular as possible. It feels less ridiculous to do something ridiculous when you're being ridiculous about it. Good luck!! ;D

As my marching band director always told me. Those who resist the corny end up looking corny in the end. I'd go all out just like Pion said. Own it!

Thank goodness I don't listen to anyone offline, or I'd be wearing a sock with eye holes cut in it around my head. <--- actual suggestion I got.
Seriously though, I plan on putting a little money into, but not much. Just a matter of finding the right place to go for what I want. Hurtman as I originally designed him is far more different and comical than he appears in-game, and much cheaper than decking myself out in body armor. I really wish I could make him in-game as I made him irl.
