So how will we know when we've crossed the 20 hour mark?
Seriously, will we get an e-mail or do we just have to make a metal guess and try to post to the CO forum ever so often?

You can do so as soon as you create your account, it has nothing to do with hours played.

This is a problem that even Gold members are acknowledging, so this might change sometime in the future if Cryptic continues to receive overwhelming negative reactions to this. In the meanwhile, if you have anything you want to post on the official forums, please PM me and I'll get it posted asap.

From when I last tried it, Zone chat is available to use for Silver members. It's been past the 20 hour thing I think, but the Zone chat part is the only part I'm certain on.

Yes, after 20 hours, you're allowed to post in zone chat. I'm not sure about the PMing part, but as I've made it my goal to represent Silver members on the official forums, I've received many PMs from Silver members who aren't on my friends list. So I think that might unlock after 20 hours too, or maybe you have it already but just don't know it. Try PMing Alan Shepherd@Cradock or Jac Gildas@Cradock - both are my characters, so we'll be able to see if it works. And yes, Cryptic expects you to pay for the ability to speak and ask for help. I personally believe this is a mistake on Cryptic's part, but that is their current policy.

The "no posting on the forums if you are silver" is just wrong. At least they should give us those perks. Still, nothing we can do about it until they change the rules.
Regarding the 20 hour mark, someone posted on the Guild Chat how to. Just type /played and it will display the amount of the time said character has been played. If you have 2 characters, just add them and see if you are past the 20 hour mark.
I've tried PM before the 20 hour mark and it totally worked for me. As long as you know the char name and the handle name, I think you are good to go.

Wait, are you saying Silver members are able to post on the forums after making a C-Store purchase or hitting the 20 hour mark? No. Silver members cannot post anywhere on the official forums except for the PC & Technical Issues sub board and then only for the purpose of reporting that they're having issues running the game on their system. Edited for corrections. TY Dysmetria for catching the errors.

No. Silver members cannot post anywhere on the official forums except for the Bugs & Technical Issues sub boards and then only for the purpose of reporting, well, bugs and technical issues. Actually Silvers can only post about their PC and technical issues. They are not allowed to post in the gameplay bugs forum either.
