After having heard of the magical abilities of Directx12, a Windows 10 feature which according to former hyperbole included but not limited to cross-brand multi GPU set up capabilities, performance increases of up to 60%, Vram memory stacking, and free vacations on the 1st moon resorts when the space exploration era dawns it is difficult for gamers not get into Windows 10! OK, maybe the moon vacations weren't part of it but nevermind the fact that all of the other things are false and without a shred of logic in their conjecture. Windows 10 appears to be getting some seriously high praises from most reviewers who don't seem to leave Windows 8 out of the equation whenever Windows 10 is mentioned. Basically, as the hyperbole goes, Windows 10 is the greatest thing ever because it isn't like Windows 8! As an user of Windows 8.1 who have had very little issues with it this bit came as a surprise to me because I wasn't aware that Windows 8 was that terrible in the eyes of so many people. Truly its start menu replacement was dumb, but that feature didn't seem to be that bad to me as soon as I learn the ways around it. Also there were several apps that let you have the start menu back if it was so important to you, and also there is the fact that as power gamer I have nearly 300 games installed on my rig, ranging from old games like Baldur's Gate to cutting edge games like The Witcher 3, with 216 of them being on Steam, and currently the only game I have that doesn't work properly (in fact it doesn't work at all) is Dirt 3 Complete Edition, and if you check the Steam forums you'll see that there is tons of people on Windows 7 who are having the same problem so you can rule out Windows 8 as the culprit. Windows 8.1 is actually the 1st Microsoft OS I have used since Windows XP that has almost no OS inherent conflicts with any of the programs I use, which to me this was a HUGE leap forwards. Yet apparently Windows 8 is so terrible that it makes Windows 10 a must!
Well I think for gamers who want to be at the cutting edge of the hobby Windows 10 is pretty much a must due to the fact future games are going to be programmed to work best with Directx 12, however there are signs that are pointing out that Windows 10 may not be as cool as it's cracked out to be. In fact it may be a god awful OS designed specifically to spy on you so to report you to authorities if you download the wrong file, or pirated anything, and to monitor everything you do and then spam you to oblivion with ads. I heard reviewers praising this! WTF! they praise that the OS collects data to send adds that are made of the stuff you want to buy, because our beef with adds is not the adds themselves is just that they aren't made of the stuff we might wanna purchase, right? WTF! And I feel like the only weirdo who asks why should an operating system collect info about me so that I can get adds in the first place! Or perhaps you need to wonder why is this OS "upgrade" free in the 1st place? Well the answer to that is a clear as it could be, the spying and the adds! Free in capitalism doesn't exist, you will pay for it in some way, and in this case you pay for it with your privacy.
Now I know what you are thinking, that I must be crazy, that privacy is such an important thing in our cultures and that there is no way a company, a trust worthy company, like Microsoft would do that right? Or maybe you feel like certain people already on the defense of Microsoft claiming that Google (I was not aware Google was an OS, it was a webpage and a social network competitor when last I checked) is already collecting info on us and that if Google does it, the Microsoft has a green light!
Well Joe the Plummer hold your horses, what Microsoft is doing is taking spying on customers to a whole unprecedented new level! Even the files you open in your computer while offline are going to be logged in and the info sent to Microsoft for analysis as soon as you are online, yep you heard that right, your porn, your pictures, your games, your docs, even your voice and text messages, everything! I can see Charlie in a near future that's entangled in a rape trial, coming out guilty because his browsing activities included BDSM porn and his credibility went down to zero, or people who are working to uncover the corruption of our system and government being hunted down before they could do anything because what they were doing in their computers was intercepted. This will degenerate us into a state in which our Martin Luther kings will die before they could become relevant, and we as people will have no voice or power of any kind. This is some seriously scary stuff and before you dispute any of this please have a look at this copy and paste from the privacy agreement that comes with Windows 10.
"Finally, we will access, disclose and preserve personal data, including your content (such as the content of your emails, other private communications or files in private folders), when we have a good faith belief that doing so is necessary to: 1.comply with applicable law or respond to valid legal process, including from law enforcement or other government agencies; 2.protect our customers, for example to prevent spam or attempts to defraud users of the services, or to help prevent the loss of life or serious injury of anyone; 3.operate and maintain the security of our services, including to prevent or stop an attack on our computer systems or networks; or 4.protect the rights or property of Microsoft, including enforcing the terms governing the use of the services – however, if we receive information indicating that someone is using our services to traffic in stolen intellectual or physical property of Microsoft, we will not inspect a customer’s private content ourselves, but we may refer the matter to law enforcement."
Well isn't that a wonder Microsoft is going to monitor what we do in our computers to report us to the police, while claiming they are going to protect us from spamming, while the OS itself not only spams but is doing the very thing we are scared spyware will do to us in the first place, spying!
Seems I'm gonna miss the days when OS were just platforms for you to install your programs since we now moved into a bizarre era where they are actually modifying our behavior on computers, and I don't know about you but Windows 10 may end up becoming that thing I will use only for gaming while everything else I will do on Linux, and especially because the features that do the spying are set to ON by default if you chose express install which to my eyes destroys all credibility on Microsoft.
Here is a tutorial on how to disable all of the features that do the spying: bgr.com/2015/07/31/windows-10-upgrade-spying-how-to-opt-out/ Included "Cortana" the virtual assistance included in the OS to make spying on you more friendly!
For me the question will be, will I be safe from Microsoft if I disable those things they suggested or are there other spying features we are not aware of? Will using an emulator like Virtualbox with a distro of Linux on it prevent MS from spying us or will Windows 10 also be able to spy on what the Virtual OS is doing?
