The Dev Post: www.dcuniverseonline.com/news/archive/game-update-31-producer-letter-2013-october-21-dc-universe-onlineThe Gist: DC Universe Online is being brought to the Playstation 4 game console, and they're updating the whole game for it. And the PC version seems to be sharing in these benefits, the changes affect both the graphics and gameplay. The biggest thing is, it looks like DCUO has BOTH the will and the resources to do things to attract players back. This part is just my opinion, but since it's a PS4 title, DCUO suddenly got more budget to work with. Now that extra boost won't last forever, but it might be worth keeping an eye on how this develops.

Eh. The main reason I didn't stay is because they went down the DLC route. Locking content away behind pay barriers defeats the entire purpose of the F2P model. The end result is that people came, checked it out, and then left because they slammed up against the pay wall in order to keep going. If they dropped the DLC crap I'd go back to it in a heartbeat.

Well, I stopped playing because my CR was not high enough for theses DLC's and by my calculations, to rise from T2 to T3 I had to do 178 weekly (solo, duos and 4-man) mixed with dailies.
The most incredible was my T1 PvP gear, that I bought at the vendor, was far superior to my T2. And being a F2P player, was unable to buy higher tiers because of $$ limit.

I totally agree with you Lantesh, however I have to admit this new changes look extremely interesting, so I do need to check them out. As usual in all super hero MMOs the coolest thing is having lots of costumes straight from the start, back when I played Champions Online for real for example, I spent almost as much time at the tailor as I did in the rest of the game, so say what you want about CO, the costumes were the one thing that game got right. Now of course I was playing before CO made the nasty mistake of streamlining character creation, which didn't affect me since by the time it happened I have already purchased all the costumes I wanted, since back then I was a truth believer in F2P. In any event the point I'm making is having lots of costumes straight from the start the way CoH and CO did it, this is one of the single most effective hook ups I can think of for a super hero MMO, and I felt there were not that many costume options in DCU at the start of the game for me to get me hooked in it, this lowered my interest in the game, especially after I found out you are supposed to clock hours in the game before you get a good selection. I believe this idea that players need to either pay a lot of money, or clock lots of hours to be able to look awesome is as stupid as it gets, 1st let me have a good looking toon of my design, then we talk about spending money and clocking in hours. Now this is just how I think, certainly there are people out there that would say the opposite of that, but for me if I can't have a badass looking super hero at the start then I'll be shopping for another game instead of playing yours. So after the above statement you would understand why more costume options at character creation for F2Pers would be the top thing in my wishlist for the new changes for DCU. Such of thing would be the 1 thing that might hook me on this game. So whatever new things they add to the game, more costumes at the start MUST be among them!

That DCUO update is live and the way I can feel about it can be summed up with 2 words: Big Whoop.
Nothing changed except graphical improvements...but only for the backdrops. Like buildings and stuff.
The entire thing is that DCUO seeks to attract new PS4 players, hope they subscribe, or buy some DLCs.

My problem with DCUO is twofold. First, the DLC thing mentioned above. That's pretty lame, and makes the whole F2P thing a lie. Second is more damning, IMO: the narrative. You're not your own hero/villain in DCUO; you're some established hero's sidekick, or some villain's minion. I don't want to take orders from Batman or Wonder Woman all day, or do the Joker's dry cleaning. I want to be a hero/villain in my own right, saving the day because I was called in, not because they wanted Green Lantern but he was busy so they got stuck with me. If I'm holding the city hostage with my nefarious doomsday device, I don't want Brainiac or Darkseid taking the credit for sending me out to do their dirty work.
And, of course, there's always that one niggling question that always arises whenever a DC property is the setting: why isn't Superman handling this? He's an invincible physical god with literal super-smarts that can throw planets and is, somehow, just barely slower than the Flash. He makes every other hero in the DC universe redundant, and this is never more clear than in the context of a video game, where he could easily thwart every villainous plot single-handedly.
