Anyone heard of Path Of Exile? www.joystiq.com/2013/10/23/diablo-esque-action-mmo-path-of-exile-travels-to-steam-for-pc-f/Apparently it's a Free to Play Diablo-esque action MMO done by a team of mostly hobbyists. Now I'm no diablo fan and gawd know I don't need another MMO in my life but I hear the spells system is a lot like Final Fantasy VII's Materia and that has me instantly interested, very interested. Has anyone here played it? What did you think of it?

I played it for a while in the beta. I thought it was a solid title. I only stopped playing because...well...you know how distracted I can get in games Super.

It has one of the most complicated, yet rewarding skill allocation system in any dungeon crawler/mmo I've played. The first time you open the skill tree, you will be overwhelmed. Like, seriously. You have access to around a thousand skills, all grouped according to the way they work. It's freeforming at it's best. Here's a brief peek at the skill tree. i.imgur.com/rV2dlAG.jpg

That skill tree is no joke. Very much reminds me of the FFX system in the layout.
Being able to freely re-socket your gear is a godsend, especially when you consider that your special moves come from the gems you put into your weapons and armor. I'd have dropped the game and uninstalled if there was a cost associated with moving gems around.
Speaking of cost, their cash shop is alright. Cosmetic features abound plus account items like character slots and stash expansions(which is already fairly large) all for fairly cheap. A character slot is $3 and the premium stash tab bundle that gets you 6 extra premium tabs(premium=can change their name and coloration for sorting purposes) is $20 and since you're getting them in bulk the price is discounted.
I'm liking the game a lot so far, not a huge fan of how you have to be online to play but the rest of the game is pretty solid. Definitely something I'd recommend to everyone.
EDIT: There is a $1000 item in the cash shop. The ability to design a Unique item that will be added to the game. You design the look, mechanics and flavor text. Good grief, a thousand dollars? Expect to see the "gaming journalism" sites quickly place this game at the top of their lists of F2P games with crazy-priced useless cash shop items.

A lot of my friends played the beta and all them are unanimous in saying that this game is what Diablo 3 should have been.
Never been a big fan of the Diablo game genre, so I did not try.

I might still not play it due to time constraints, and especially because this clearly is a game that you either clock a million hours on it or go home.
