I'm kindof upset with their support right now. I sent a ticket that told them exactly what my problem was and it was followed with the canned response along with a message that said no follow-up would happen unless I updated the ticket. That's fine, I'll update: "The canned reply had zero help for my situation." I go into further detail about the problem i'm having and I get a reply from a GM saying they're working on the forums and to keep trying. I don't care if you're working on the forums, I'm asking to verify that my account is actually under the email in question and to reset the password. That's not related in any way to the forums being up or down... c'mon people!
That's only cause they manage accounts through the Forums servers. Also, are you sure he just didn't say to check the Forums cause they were working on it?
Anyway, the beginning was a bit tedious and the fact they didn't think of having bigger server clusters for Europe is highly unsettling. I think I'll take a US "home-server", and that I'll be "guesting" to go PvE with my Euro-friends...
I finally managed to figure what class my main will be. Elementalist it is. Of all the class, they seem to have the biggest range of skills, and I love the fact you can switch elements on the spot. (Kinda regret the lack of weapon swapping though)

I only played a little bit of the beta and then went back to CO. I was enjoying what I played but the low framerate wasn't getting along with my illness (fighting a cold and some related vertigo this weekend) and I didn't need any extra help making me want to hurl.
Hopefully that optimization gets ironed out.

Considering the first one, the specs they announced, and the state of their un-optimized version... Yeah, you can say I trust them to give us a nice polished product.
They still have 2 whole months before any release... And, without being really nasty or sarcastic, they DO attend each and every single bug report / feedback... (Something some don't seem to do. And I say "seem", cause benefit of the doubt)

(Kinda regret the lack of weapon swapping though)Elementalists are simply awesome, I pray they don't do the same thing they did in Eye of the North, which is basically making almost every foe in the expansion anti Elementarist, because that would suck nastily for GW2, so I'm crossing my fingers they don't go that way. Edit: The mesmer looks so sweet!

I heard the Necro was very overpowering with the minions in beta.
Personally I'm going with the Thief. Burst baby.

Oof, I hear ya, KJ. I'm REALLY glad my flu cleared up when it did, because those fps drops would have had me spewing on my keyboard otherwise.
I'm still torn as to what class to play. I rolled a warrior this time round, and kind of enjoyed it. It's a very cool class and so on, but it isn't me the same way as thief was (and I am in no way admitting to any closed betas).
But then when we tried world v world v world PVP, warrior came in to its own in a surprising way. The warhorn abilities the warrior has (remove cripples and roots, add haste to allies) and the banners (extra precision/toughness/etc depending on the banner) REALLY helped the team. And suddenly the warrior was fun to play as a support class, which I didn't even know was an option.
Necromancer is a lot of fun to play, but going up against them I found the minion masters to be a nuiscance but the fear/debuff builds to be terrifying.
I realize I'm mostly talking about PvP here... I should point out I'm not a big PvPer, but I REALLY enjoyed the world v world v world stuff. There was something wonderful about getting a handful of clowns together, taking a tower, putting our guild banner all over it, reinforcing it to the extent of our meager wallets and then trying to hold it against wave followed by wave followed by wave of green invaders. We lasted about 4-5 hours, I think? Always between 8-12 of us (including random people stopping by) against 15-50 of them.

That's some awesome insight, I'm super glad to hear warriors are great as for right now, I endured a warrior as my main char in GW1, and after pulling that off I swore I'll never play another warrior in a GW game since my conclusion was Arena hates melee fighters in general, so i'm SOOO GLAD they don't seem to be heading that way as for right now.

Nothing made me giggle quite so much as shouting "Roller! Take the cannon!", vaulting over the castle walls, delivering the coup-de-grace on two downed invaders, blowing the warhorn to free me of the roots I had just aquired and SPRINTING back into the castle before I was cut to pieces while The Unholy Roller rained grapeshot onto the angry folks chasing me. Well, that's not true. The cow-cannon and battle-cattle-training events in the level 15-25 Charr areas made me giggle more. Best. Quests. Ever.

Sorry I was unable to catch any of you in game this weekend (and sorry to hear about your illnesses Kenpo and Issmir).
I ended up on the Eternal Grove server after a couple of my guild officers jumped the gun and logged in the minute the Beta servers were up.
I spent most of my time playing around with Mesmer and Ranger this weekend and found them both to be fun. Much of my time was spent in the 5v5 structured PvP arenas and I can tell you that this is some of the most edge of your seat MMO PvP I have encountered. Fights can be over in 5 seconds or can see-saw back and forth for minutes.
I do hope that A-Net includes some non capture point modes at some point in the future. But, with WvW they may be able to hold off on that for some time, if not indefinitely.
I did try the WvW, but my timing may have been off a bit as there were few opposing players during my trial. I will say that the maps for WvW were amazing in scope and gorgeous as well.
It was hilarious the one time I saw an opposing player come around the bend in the terrain and almost run into the fifteen or so of us that were just wandering around killing mobs and chatting. There was a brief moment of..
"hey, isnt that a RED dude ?" "An enemy player ?" "Yeah, it is !!!!" "Get him !!!"
Meanwhile he just stood there for a moment, as if in shock at facing 15+ to 1 odds....then ran like heck.
I visualize it like an old Three Stooges movie where an angry mob is in hot pursuit while the stooges claps their hats to their heads and run like their lives depend on it..whooping and hollering all the way.

I had my heart and head set on an Elementalist after watching hours and hours and hours of video for the last several months. The swapping of elements and the varied roles those elements lend seemed like a perfect fit for me. Once I finally got my hands on one, it didn't quite fit how I had hoped it would.
After this weekend I'm leaning more toward a Ranger for a PvE main and a Mesmer for a PvP main. Rangers can be pretty fun in PvP but I wasn't quite feeling it. I didn't have all of the weapon skills open when I went in so I didn't quite get the full experience with them in the WvWvW. I only had the long bow which is mostly long-ranged single target, the dual axes which are mid-ranged singleish target; attack 2 is a cone and attack 4 is a cylinder, the rest are single target. I also had a couple of the short bow attacks unlocked but they weren't all too useful against a horde. Collecting pets is also a fun aspect of the class for me. Sadly I doubt there will be any really rare pets to collect, but still It's a fun part of the class. Being able to swap between active pets on the fly is awesome. I took a Raven as my pet once I left the tutorial and kept him out most of the time swapping him for the amphibious drake when I needed something that could take a bit more of a beating.
The Mesmer with a Great Sword is a BEAST, especially in groups. Long range attacks with two clone abilities that are actually quite useful. Swap that over for two swords when an enemy gets in close to get a third illusion(or just summon all three from dual swords, the weapon combo has three of its own that it can summon) And you can shred up close with the number two attack. Summoning a phantasmal wizard, berzerker, and swordsman to fight your enemy on the ground while you snipe them from the relative safety of a castle wall by turning your greatsword into a lightning rail gun is very pleasing.

The Mesmer with a Great Sword is a BEAST, especially in groups. It occurs to me that the two classes I am least interested in playing (the mesmer and guardian) are the two that caused me the most constant problems in WvWvW. Weird huh? Though that might be partly due to that guardian who pushed us both off that cliff while I was supposed to be guarding you and the arrow cart. Twice. Never be on the side of a cliff with an enemy who can summon force fields.

I really didn't get much time with the game (funnily enough I wasn't too well either...) but at least I did manage to have a quick blast with each race and the majority of classes, never got out of the starter area after the tutorial on each though. I couldn't get my Charr engineer into the tutorial big battle as it was bugged and lagging like a pig which was a shame as I rolled 'Pu De Taat' with the aim of catching up with the clowns (did manage to add Issmir as a friend)
When Live hits I will be rolling 5 toons: Human Guardian (probably gonna main this one and it's one of the more heal focused classes, which appeals to me.) Norn Ranger Sylvari Mesmer Human Elementalist Asura Engineer
I was a little disappointed with the detail on the character models but it's Beta and that can well change.
Hoping there's more Beta events to come before launch so I can actaully get out of the starting gates.
