Feel free to skip the bold
I tried the game, saw no archetype i liked but picked one anyhow and left because it wasnt what i wanted.
Then subscribe you say? I gave up on subscription based games 2 years ago for the reason that as a subscriber i felt obligated to play hardcore to get my dollars worth. i experimented F2P (Cash shop) games and loved it as i could buy what i wanted when i felt like it, and had no worries about missing a weekend of gaming, or even a month.
I couldn't resist checking out the game, i think i spent more time customizing my character than actually playing. And now that i had the toon i quit because it is not what i really wanted and as a nonsubscriber i have no options.
All i ever see is how to weasel a free form slot for silver. Forget that, i want MY hero. It is looking like top level each toon gets like 14 powers or so. I want to go to the cash shop and buy that power! So what, $2 or $3(200-400 Atari Tokens) per power i am looking at maybe $40 for my ideal character. Now i am enjoying the game so of course i want to buy more costume parts or bank slots, auction house rights whatever else i think i may need.
This i feel would solve the silver having close to gold rights debate. I can't respec to anthying unless i buy more powers. Sure you could mix up what you already have, but you would still need to buy the respec + at least a few new powers assuming you already have ~14.
Let me buy individual powers from the cash shop!

lol same.. i made five account and filled em with all sort of character.. but haven't got any of them over level 20 yet...
this game just isn't much fun to play with all these limitation.. the customization is the only part that shine and keep me staying here for a bit longer.
p.s. if they keep the gold limit at 250 and other limit unchange.. even with power for sale it will still be kinda painful to play.. i would have never spend any real money on this kind of game.. not while i can get much much better game play else where without spending a penny. right now am just sit and watch, see if they make any change. if they don't.. then i go other games.

p.s. if they keep the gold limit at 250 If i enjoy the hero i make and want to play the game seriously i will want to buy a higher gold limit. Glory be the day that every tiny feature a gold member has excluding stipend, has a price tag attached to it for silver players.Buying everything up to the equivelent of what gold members get would total well over a LTS. Of course I don't expect people to buy everything, just what they feel they really want. After powers and a few perks i could see the majority easily spending$50-100 without even blinking on the character they enjoy playing.

For just inventory space and bank space it is going to be about $13. Chances are this will be bought by everyone opting to invest anything into the game. Making your hero with the powers you want, lets continue the 200-300 atari point price experiment, you need about 4,000points or about $50 worth. Players get the toon they envisioned but they only have those powers. As they begin to truly enjoy the game they may opt to get things like... - Costume slots
- Power tinting
- Raised Gold Cap
- Market place slots
- Costume parts
- Respec
- New powers
- Mission packs (which will be the only form of content release)
I feel like being shoved into an archetype probably has similar results for a large portion of potential customers. Had a blast with costume creation, frustrated with the archetype restriction, then dropped the game. Would this allow players to play the toon they want for less than a LTS, most certainly! Does silver have anywhere near what gold members have for $65, not even close, but the option is there if they are willing to pay for it. To be blunt, they just need to fully embrace the cash shop. The biggest hang up is the LTS players who will feel ripped off because they bought a bundle deal instead of only the parts they wanted.

The biggest hang up is the LTS players who will feel ripped off because they bought a bundle deal instead of only the parts they wanted. I highly doubt anyone will buy a LTS just to get access to a specific facet of the game. That's not an economical or smart decision to make. Anyone that will buy a LTS and feel "ripped off" because they'll get a lot of extra bells and whistles with their purchase should probably seek counseling to figure out how to deal with impulsive spending habits. I wouldn't purchase a LTS to get specific things like, for example, color hues for my powers. That's like buying a car just for it's radio or buying an AT&T bundle deal just to get a phone number. However things like car radios and home phone service are things that are available by themselves. If a product was ONLY available as part of a bundle and I didn't want the rest of the bundle that came with it, I'd save my money and either wait to see if it ever does become available by itself or learn to live without it.

No, because LTS also has access to the monthly stipend, VIP lounge, vet rewards, custom travel powers, and current/future content (i.e. adventure packs). They also have a TON more character slots, a TON more AH slots, a TON more costume slots, and basically a TON more costumes. So, the price for power sets shouldn't be equal to the price of LTS because LTS members have so much more than just freeform.

So, the price for power sets shouldn't be equal to the price of LTS because LTS members have so much more than just freeform. I posted this in the "freeform" thread, but I will repost it in this thread also. ================ As a silver player who just downloaded this game a few days ago, but who also pays for a sub to DDO (Dungeons & Dragons Online), I'd like to give my 2 cents. If a LTS (lifetime subscription) is a fixed price, and gives you Gold level access, then a Silver player should be able to purchase everything for the same amount of money, because even if they do, its still not Gold level access. In other words, Gold access is more than just "all the content". There are other things given to Gold that are never given to Silver. - 400 stipend/mo - priority login (no wait queue) - access to "Special" content for free (existing or future content). Now, that last one, see, that's what I think most of you are missing the point on. A sub gets you any new content, and any new "special" stuff, free. Silver does not. Say a Silver purchases everything, and I mean everything, today, Feb 16th, for the same price, overall, as a LTS. Right? Well, next month, they release some new stuff (new adventure pack, new special stuff in the C-Store, whatever). LTS: you get it all, free. no cost whatsoever. Silver: fork over some more cash to "catch up". Now, repeat this process every few months. New content->more money from Silvers who have "everything" so that they can still have "everything." Getting it now? This is how DDO does it. In DDO, a free account can purchase "everything" for less RL $ than a sub costs for 13 months. But there are few things that free account never gets: 1. priority login 2. In DDO, quests can be done on 3 difficulties, normal/hard/elite. Free has to do them in order (norm, then hard, then elite), subs can jump right to elite. 3. Subs get 500 Turbine Points/month (their version of Stipend). 4. Subs get access to all packs, all classes, all races, even when new ones come out (frees who "have it all" have to re-pay to buy the new stuff.)

What I think is that Cryptic was waiting with a complete C-Store until they see what revenue and player base F2P gives, to implement it later. That's what I hope for, anyway. It's what I would do.
Either way, people will ask for it and Cryptic will either add it later or won't. Whichever they choose may very well decide the future of the game.

While I tend to agree it's a risk in that if it's left too long the huge influx of new players will drop off and probably not return. I know personally I don't really feel like I'm playing my character since it's all mapped out for me except how they look (and even then the color is kind of picked since whatever the power color is will also be similar to the outfit color I go with) which is preventing me from feeling attached which isn't an incentive for me to sink money into the game. I just feel like as soon as something distracts me I'll be jumping ship and not looking back.
