I am now leveling a Marksman through PvP (so far so good, except for all of the teleport at the first sign of trouble players). In pvp I find it best to avoid AT's Behe and Glacier atmost, only hitting backs of others besides them. Also I find at lower levels having Fair Game advantage of Quarry help alot of survivability rather ranking it to r3.

I had some people expressing confusion concerning all the advantages and ranks they were supposed to take with these powers.
So I compiled all of the powers and advantages into the list below. Note that this is just a summary of Ashen's advice - I'm not advocating my own build or changing anything. I'm just condensing all of Ashen's awesome information into this section below:
Level 1: Strafe (Aversion) Level 1: Straight Shot (R2, Split the Arrow) Level 6: Teleport (R2) Level 6: Sonic Arrow (Deadly Dissonance, Nailed to the Ground) Level 8: Quarry (R2, Fair Game) Level 11: Torrent of Arrows (R2, Relentless Recurve) Level 14: Retaliation (R2) Level 17: Snap Shot (Finish Him, Crippling Challenge) Level 22: Hunter's Instinct (N/A) Level 27: Evasive Maneuvers (R2, R3) Level 32: Storm of Arrows (R2, Achilles Heel) Level 40: Explosive Arrow (Where’s The Kaboom?)
Since Ashen never specified if Straight Shot should be level up to Rank 2, you can either put the two extra advantage points into there (as I outlined above), or you can allocate them to Retaliation R3. I favor Straight Shot R2, as I just don't like shielding all that much, but then again, that's personal playstyle for ya'.

Here are some suggestions that will likely make your life easier in the early levels of play. 1) Take deadly dissonance on Sonic Arrow early. Stunning and damaging an entire group of mobs with a sonic arrow alpha strike will give you time to get off another charged sonic arrow. This will likely finish all but the toughest member of a group. This was a great tip and a great guide. Thank you. I was playing Soldier, but I'm having a much better time as a Marksman.

In most fights, I open with a fully charged Torrent, tap Sonic to whittle down health, and finish individuals with Snap Shot.
(I notice that quite often, either Sonic will double-trigger or will lend the sonic effect to the next shot -- but maybe that's an effects glitch rather than a game mechanics thing?)
Sometimes when I'm tapping Sonic the AoE will take out nearby low-health enemies, but it's not a big factor. My AoE needs are pretty well covered by Torrent for now, so I think I'd be better off dropping Deadly Dissonance for Split the Arrow and make more use of Straight Shot.

I'm pretty close to getting Torrent and I'll try it out. Edit - I've got it and tried it out. Torrent has replaced by Sonic Arrow as my opening fully-charge salvo. Then it's just easier to finish with Straight Shot with Split the Arrow. I re-specced, taking away Deadly Dissonance, at least for now.

After trying both ways, I think sticking with Deadly Dissonance might be a little better after all -- but honestly, what you do in the heat of combat seems to matter more. Regardless of ranks and advantages, each power has its use. Relentless Recurve and Fair Game I would call must-haves though

Got to say, this guide is completely awesome. Im still fairly new to CO and talents and advantages have ALWAYS confused the every loving hell out of me. I never knew what was optimal to take, what worked better, and picked a crafting school usually turns into a 2 hour google session. Anyway, just want to say thanks for this guide, takes a ton of pressure off my shoulders kind of having an idea of what to take, when, and why.

Oh - I took Acrobatics. I'm totally new to CO and this is my first character - only just completed the tutorial. Will I get the chance to change/add Travel Power? Can I muddle on with Acrbatics or do you suggest I restart now?

Sorry for not answering until now - I didn't see your question until just now.

Acro is good. You don't have to switch Travel Power unless you feel it fits your character/playstyle better.

I seem to be doing badly at cage match pvp sofar on my Marksman, it feels like I cant handle anything one on one, is it just me or is the archetype actually weaker then the others? Any advice would be helpfull.

excellent guide. I just started out and am putting my first two points in deadly dissance. now for my next one where should I look? I really want to be a solid dpser and will prolly focus more on pve than pvp since I love instances. should my next one be Relentless Recurve or Torrent of Arrows ?? I guess im kinda asking someone to hold my hand even more for a nooby like me
