So we've got a thread for what games we're playing, another for Comics we're reading, so it must be time for one about what music we're listening to.
Personally I've become more and more of a fan of Modern Prog Rock but otherwise I prefer guitar based stuff preferably with a bit of a groove.
Porcupine Tree Opeth Anathema Blackfield Perfect Circle Tool Frank Turner Pendulum Spiritual Beggers Entombed Transport League Dragon Force (my old band supported these guys!) Corrosion Of Conformity Suicidal Tendencies/Infectious Grooves Jaco Pastorius Jeff Buckley Dub War/Skindred The Wildhearts Swervedriver Smashing Pumpkins Husker Du/Bob Mould Screaming Trees

I have recently been putting my music on Cloud. Almost 300 albums so far, with more to go, and it covers 49 genres . . . so I am rather eclectic. I build and play guitars, and have loved music all my life.
Currently I am on a rock/hard rock/metal kick.
Play list for the last week or so:
Dream Theater Government Mule Iced Earth Opeth Motley Crue Los Lonely Boys Black Label Society Evergrey
Next week - who knows? It may be all Jack Johnson and Fleetwood Mac . . .

I'll listen to anything mainstream so long as it isn't rap or country.
I've been currently attempting to listen to the soundtrack for Sucker Punch and songs from the tv show Chuck.

For most my life I used to listen almost exclusively to rock music, mostly heavy metal and some punk rock, 80s and early 90s stuff. Now I still tend to listen to rock music, but also occasionally listen to other type of music (mostly a couple of singles here and there), as well as a lot of Capoeira music.
Some of my favorite bands include: Metallica Bad Religion Iron Maiden Disturbed A bit of Megadeth, Ozzy Osbourne, Sepultura, Anthrax, Metal Church, Ramones, Bon Jovi, Europe (Final Countdown), Danzig (Mother) Probably other stuff I don't recall right now.
In the case of Capoeira, I mostly listen to Capoeira Angola music (Mestre Jogo de Dentro is my one of my fav) and anything dealing with Berimbau toques, but I also like Mestre Tony Vargas (my favorite voice in all capoeira music) and Carolina Soares.

I listen to a little bit of everything, but a few of my favorites are: Oingo Boingo (I really miss these guys) RUSH YES King Crimson Queensryche Duran Duran Depeche Mode Blue October anything by Eric Idle The Hooters Jimmy Buffett Huey Lewis & the News (probably my favorite band. I DID grow up in the 80's after all) Peter Gabriel Genesis/Phil Collins Paul van Dyke Jellyfish I also enjoy classical, country, and showtunes (Broadway and the like)
I could go on forever, but that's just a small sample.

I listen to any and everything except country.
I don't stick to genres and truthfully I can't identify many of them either. My music buying goes as follows:
1) Hears a song he likes from a movie, tv show or a friend. 2) Samples the song on itunes/amazon and chooses to buy the song or the album if the rest of the songs measure up.
I don't do radio.

Most of these I just listen to as Pandora stations, sometimes a Youtube channel The Hold Steady Drive-By Truckers (great on Pandora, gets Lucero, Wilco, Uncle Tupelo, SCotS, etc) Shilpa Ray Beirut The Clash The Smiths Ida Maria Dave Brubeck
I also like to go to thelaughbutton or youtube and put a comedian on, like Patton Oswalt.
