Looking to make a effective build themed around a Slight of Hand-using Magician, rather than a traditional spellcaster.
Looking to use the Ranged DPS role. And the Superstats of Dex, Int, Recovery. Maybe Night Warrior, but it's not a hard requirement.
The idea is to make a guy who is using conjured items and stage effects to fight crime.

I'd love to help out! I've got a few ideas already on what to use, but I would like to know your limitations. How far are you willing to stretch "conjured items"? For instance, there's two blade summoning powers, Warlock's and Pyromancer's Blades, but they can have a rather magical summoning animation.

I'm willing to make some concessions, Stage Magic is all about the spectacle so I'm good hand waving alot of things. Right now I am currently using Boomerang Toss and Ricochet throw as starters, since I can hand wave them as being flashy card throws.

Alright, I've gone through with some testing and tried to keep the magic toned down. While I did keep the card throwing intact, it's very difficult to get good single target numbers from it, so I borrowed a bit from the "conjuring" concept.
Consider the following: ○ Intelligence (Primary) ○ Dexterity ○ Ego You can take Recovery over Ego if you wish, Ego simply improves the damage, and Intelligence will be your primary source of energy.
Powers ○ Boomerang Toss ○ Ricochet Throw (Rank 2, Shredded) ○ Concentration ○ Night Warrior (Rank 2, Rank 3) ○ Throwing Blades (Rank 2, Rank 3) ○ Toxic Nanites (Rank 2, Rank 3) ○ Conjuring ○ Hex of Suffering (Rank 2, Rank 3) ○ Telekinetic Lance (Rank 2, Rank 3) ○ Telekinetic Maelstrom (Inner Peace, Rank 2 or Expansive Intellect) ○ Resurgence (Unchained) ○ Antagonize (Rank 2, Rank 3) or Guard (Rank 2, Rank 3, with a theme-matching skin) or Deflect (Rank 2, Rank 3, same as Guard) ○ Mental Impact ○ Magician's Dust

In a way, I played a bit more into the illusionary part of magicians, Lance and Maelstrom being very flashy bits of that. Hex is just a little glob of sparkly stuff, I think it'd be easy to excuse it from magic. The way I played this, in testing, is to get stacks of Mental Leech via Maelstrom tap, apply Hex to the primary target for Conjuring, then fully charge Lance to get your Mental Leech stacks to recharge. If you're in a single target environment, you'll have to build up Leech stacks by using fully charged Lance when you stop gaining more Leech stacks and using Maelstrom whenever it's off cooldown. Once you're at 5 stacks, fully charge lance, then rotate between charging Ricochet and Throwing Blades repeatedly, using Toxic Nanites and Hex in between whenever they're off cooldown, then when Mental Leech is back up to 5 stacks, use Ricochet again (tap or charge, doesn't matter) then fully charge Lance. Rotation repeats from there.
Also, for gear, I was using full Intelligence primaries (Crit Severity gloves with gambler's, defense chest with growth amulet, efficiency helm with gambler's) and Dex/Crit secondary offense then Dex/Ego (Clever) defense and utility. High Intelligence is important for the energy gains via Form and Energy Unlock, Conjuring in this case.

Whoops, I forgot to include Resurgence in the build text. Take that with Unchained, it's pretty standard for my builds so I guess sometimes I forget to include it, aha

Though, out of curiosity Shapey, if you didn't use the Gadgeteering things...what would you have used? Like no need for a whole build outline, I'm just curious what powersets or abilities you were thinking of initially.
