Guide Overview
Hello guys and girls, today I bring you a new and updated guide for the Penitent Archetype. So what does this hero do? This hero has access to gadgets and blades to make enemies Bleed and score devastating Critical Hits.
This is a premium Archetype that can be purchased by Silver Players from the Zen Store or is free for Lifetime Subscribers
Main Mechanics:
1. Bleed: This is a debuff which deals Slashing damage over time every second for 16 seconds. Stacks up to 5 times.
2. Shredded: This is a debuff that lowers the target's resistance against Slashing damage by 18% for 15 seconds.
3. Open Wound: This debuff has a 25% chance to apply stacks of Bleed, dealing Slashing damage over time once every second for 16 seconds up to 5 stacks. It is present on multiple powers of many power sets.
Special Note: You can customize the weapon(s) of this hero in the Tailors around the world to match you character designs. In this archetype case, you can change the martial arts melee weapons (of Reaper's Touch and Slash), change the colors of the Gauntlet Chainsaw and the munitions handguns from Breakaway Shot and Holdout Shot.

Power Explanation
Level 1 - Reaper's Touch: This is our energy builder power that doesn't need to be ranked up in order to generate energy for us so I recommend leaving it at rank 1. The special advantage of this power is called Three Edged Blade which will grant this power a chance to apply the Bleed debuff on the target. If we are affected by Focus buff this chance is doubled.
Level 1 - Slash OR Barbed Chain: This is the first choice between two powers for this Archetype.
1. Slash: This a combo power that will deal Slashing damage to targets within 10ft and 180/180/30 degree cone, as well has a 30-30-60% chance to apply Bleed to the targets (based on combo hit). It is important to note that this is the default power that will appear in your power tray when you create your Penitent hero, but if you wish to have Barbed Chain instead, talk to a powerhouse trainer then choose the option Remove Powers and you will be presented with a choice between the two powers and choose the latter. This power has the following special advantages:
a. Serrated Blade: Completing this combo will apply the Shredded debuff to all targets.
b. Head Trauma: This advantage will apply the Bewildered debuff to the primary target for 10 seconds, and when they attempt to charge a power they will be Stunned for 2 seconds. Can happen once every 20 seconds.
2. Barbed Chain: This is a combo power that will deal Slashing damage to a single target with the first two hits and the third strike will deal damage in a 30 degree cone. Has a 25-25-50% chance to apply the Bleed debuff to the target(s) (based on combo hit). This power has the following special advantages:
a. Sever: Finishing this combo will apply the Shredded debuff to all targets.
b. Wild Slashes: Gives the first two hits a 25% chance to apply Furious and a 100% chance to do so on the third strike. Furious increases our Critical Hit Chance by 1.5% for 12 seconds. When taking damage being affected by this buff, it will apply the Willpower buff which restores 300 Health Points over 3 seconds and stacks up to 3 times.
Level 6 - Thunderbolt Lunge OR Cut Down: This is the second of two choices between two powers for this Archetype.
1. Thunderbolt Lunge: This is a movement power that will close quarters with our target dealing Crushing damage with a flying kick, Snare them reducing their movement speed and Root them in place so they can't escape. The special advantage of this power is called Essence Assault which will attempt to Stun the target if they are not affected by a Crowd Control effect like a Hold or Paralyze.
2. Cut Down: This is a movement power that will close quarters with our target dealing Slashing damage performing a slash with our weapon. The special advantage of this power is called Delayed Attack which will apply the curse effect called Jinx to the foe reducing their damage for 10% as well their movement speed for 15% for 8 seconds. After Jinx expires, the target will be Knocked down.
Level 8 - Unstoppable OR Way of the Warrior: This is the third choice between two powers for this Archetype.
1. Unstoppable: This is a Slotted Passive power that will increase all our melee and Bleed damage by a large amount and all other damage by a lesser amount. Unstoppable will generate energy whenever an enemy knocks our hero, this energy return scales with our Recovery stat, as well this power grants us a boost to our Knock and Crowd Control resistance.
2. Way of the Warrior: This is a Slotted Passive power that will increase all our melee and Bleed damage by a large amount and all other damage by a lesser amount. Way of the Warrior will generate energy whenever an enemy dodges one of our attacks, this energy return scales with our Strength and Recovery stats, as well this power grants us a boost to our dodge chance.
Level 11 - Aspect of the Bestial OR Form of the Swordsman: This is the fourth choice between two powers for this Archetype.
1. Aspect of the Bestial: This is a toggle form that will grant us stacks of Enraged which increases the melee damage of our hero by a large amount and ranged damage for a lesser amount everytime we apply, refresh or rupture Bleed effects as well apply or refresh Deadly Poison. We can gain a stack of this form once every 4 seconds, stacks up to 8 times and the damage bonus of this form scales with our Strength stat. Also increases our energy costs by 10%. This power has a cosmetic advantage called Giant Growth which will cause our hero to grow for each stack of Enrage we have.
2. Form of the Swordsman: This is a toggle form that will grant us stacks of Focus which increases the melee damage of our hero by a large amount and ranged damage for a lesser amount everytime we apply, refresh or rupture Bleed effects. We can gain a stack of this form once every 4 seconds, stacks up to 8 times and the damage bonus of this form scales with our Dexterity stat. Also increases our energy costs by 10%.
Level 14 - Lascerating Cyclone OR Throwing Blades: This is fifth choice between two powers for this Archetype.
1. Lascerating Cyclone: This power will damage to foes around our hero within 25ft with Slashing damage every 0.5 seconds and has a 15% chance to apply a stack of Bleed to the targets as well a 15% chance to knock them back. This chance to Knock back foes receives half bonus from the Ego stat and half bonus from the Strenght stat. This power has the following special advantages:
a. Vortex Technique: This advantage changes the Knock back to a Knock to effect, having a chance every 0.5 seconds to pull targets toward our hero and the chance is guaranteed if fully maintained. Applies a stack of Furious if fully maintained. Furious increases the Critical Hit Chance of our hero by 1.5% for 12 seconds and if we are struck with an attack will give us the Willpower buff which heal us for 300 HP ovwe 3 seconds.
b. Stand Your Ground: While maintaining this power our Knock resistances receive a bonus of 200%.
2. Throwing Blades: This is a ranged power that will deal Slashing damage to foes within 50ft and a 120 degree cone by throwing boomerangs to them. If this power is fully charged, it will apply the Sudden Strike buff to our hero which increases the damage of our next Critical Hit by 15%. Counts as an Chi Energy effect. This power has the following special advantages
1. Aggression: which will cause this power to apply the Bleed debuff to targets in melee range (25ft).
2. What Do I Have in my Utility Belt: which when fully charged this power will have 100% chance to apply the Bane effect on the primary target and 50% change to secondary targets. Bane will apply one of the following debuffs to the targets randomly: Fear, Confuse, Stun, Disorient, Lethargic, Bleed, Deadly Poison, Clinging Flames, and Stagger. This what is advertised in the tooltip but this advantage will apply more random debuffs.
Level 17 - Gauntlet Chainsaw: This power will deal continuous Slashing to foes every 0.5 seconds for 4.5 seconds. This power has the following special advantages:
a. Ripsaw: This advantage increases the base damage dealt by this power by 30% when used against a target whose Health Points are below 30%.
b. Open Wound: Which will apply the same named debuff to the target. Open Wound has a 25% chance to apply stacks of Bleed, dealing Slashing damage over time once every second for 16 seconds up to 5 stacks. This advantage is a type of Wound effect.
Level 21 - Antagonize OR Retaliation: This is the sixth choice between two powers for this Archetype.
1. Antagonize: This is one of our block replacer power that can be maintained to reduce incoming damage from foes' attacks. The feature of this power is that it grants two buffs Antagonized and Cornered. Antagonized is granted when we block damage more than 20ft away and this buff increases Knock resistance by 25%, Speed by 25%, Jump Height by 2.5%, and lasts for 3 seconds as well stacks up to 3 times. On the other hand this block power will grants the Cornered buff which is granted when blocking damage from less than 20ft increasing our resistance by 5% and Knock resistance by 25%, lasts for 10 seconds and stacks up to 3 times. Antagonize will generate energy based on the damage taken and our Recovery stat. The special advantage of this power is called Quills which adds a 10% chance to apply Bleed or Deadly Poison to nearby targets. Bleed deals Slashing damage over time every second for 16 seconds, stacks up to 5 times and is considered a Wound effect. Deadly Poison deals Toxic damage over time every second for 16 seconds, stacks up to 5 times and is considered a Poison effect.
2. Retaliation: This is one of our block replacer powers that can be maintained to reduce incoming damage from foes' attacks. The feature of this power is that while blocking will apply or refresh the Retaliation buff increasing the damage of our next attack for a certain percentage based on rank. Retaliation will generate energy based on the damage taken and our Recovery stat. This power has the following special advantages:
a. Punitive Pummeling: Attacks made against our hero while blocking with this power have a 100% chance to reflect the incoming damage as a Knock Back. This effect can occur at most every 10 seconds and deals no damage.
b. Indomitable: This advantage will grant an additional 5% resitance to all damage, 5% resistance to hold effects and resistance to Knock effects. This amount increases the lower your health gets, up to a 120% maximum.
Level 25 - Wild Thing: This power is our energy unlock that will generate energy over time if we apply, refresh or rupture a Bleed effect. The energy return of this power scales with our Endurance and Recovery stats.
Level 30 - Barbed Lariat OR Holdout Shot: This is the seventh choice between two powers for this Archetype.
1. Barbed Lariat: This power will yank a foe towards us dealing Slashing damage and has a 46-100% chance to apply a stack of Bleed. This power has the following special advantages:
a. Open Wound: Which will apply the same named debuff to the target. Open Wound has a 25% chance to apply stacks of Bleed, dealing Slashing damage over time once every second for 16 seconds up to 5 stacks. This advantage is a type of Wound effect.
b. Messy: Fully charging this power will refresh the duration of the Shredded debuff on the target.
c. Slice and Dice: Fully charging this power will refresh the duration of the Bleed debuff on the target.
d. Work Up: Which will apply the Restoration self heal over time that will heal us for a small amount every 2 seconds for 6 seconds. If our health is below 20% this heal effect will be stronger on the first pulse as well the following heal pulses. Activates a shared cooldown with similar advantages of 4 seconds.
2. Holdout Shot: This power will deal a small amount of Piercing damage to a single target within 50ft. If we land a Critical Hit with it, its energy cost is greatly reduced and deals double damage (100% more Critical Hit damage). This power has the folling special advantages:
a. Stim Pack: Which will apply the Restoration self heal over time that will heal us for a small amount every 2 seconds for 6 seconds. If our health is below 20% this heal effect will be stronger on the first pulse as well the following heal pulses. Activates a shared cooldown with similar advantages of 4 seconds.
b. Open Wound: Which will apply the same named debuff to the target. Open Wound has a 25% chance to apply stacks of Bleed, dealing Slashing damage over time once every second for 16 seconds up to 5 stacks. This advantage is a type of Wound effect.
c. Frail Armor: which will apply the eponymous debuff to the target lowering their Piercing damage resistance by 18% for 15 seconds.
Level 35 - Masterful Dodge OR Aggressor: This is the eighth choice between two powers for this Archetype.
1. Masterful Dodge: This power is an Active Defense which will increase our Dodge and Avoidance ratings as well increase our resistance versus damage over time effects for 15 seconds. Will place on cooldown any other Active Defense power if we happen to have more than one. The special advantage of this power is called Unchained which will apply a large amount of Break Free damage to any holds or disable affecting our hero, a stack of hold resistance and a stack of knock resistance.
2. Aggressor: This power is an Active Offense which will increase all our damage and grant us bonus Constitution and Strength. Also applies Break Free damage to any Holds, Roots or Disables affecting our hero. Has a recharge of 1 min and 30 seconds. This power has a special advantage called Destructive Force that will cause our attacks to Stun foes for 2 seconds while this Active Offense lasts.
Level 40 - Breakaway Shot OR Evasive Maneuvers: This is the final choice between two powers for this Archetype.
1. Breakaway Shot: This power will cause our hero to lunge away from the primary target dealing damage in a wide area and Knocking down as well having a 25% chance to Knock down secondary targets and has a 6 seconds recharge. This power has the following advantages:
a. Microfilament Wire: This advantage will cause this power to knock down all targets hit and if Breakaway Shot has this enhancement, it will Knock towards our landing spot the primary target.
b. Armor Piercing: This advantage will cause our hero to apply the eponymous debuff to the primary target with a 100% chance and has a 15% chance to apply it to secondary targets.
2. Evassive Maneuvers: This power will cause our hero to perform a backflip of 60 ft if the primary target is in melee range with our hero. Additionally this power will grant us its eponymous buff which increases our Dodge chance by a certain percentage for 6 seconds. The special advantages of this power are the following:
a. Sleight of Mind: which will transform this power into a Threat Wipe ability erasing all the Threat in the target placing our hero in Stealth for a short moment. Also this advantage increases the recharge of this power to 45 seconds.
b. Stim Pack: which will apply the Restoration self heal over time that will heal us for a small amount every 2 seconds for 6 seconds. If our health is below 20% this heal effect will be stronger on the first pulse as well the following heal pulses. Activates a shared cooldown with similar advantages of 4 seconds.
