With all the hate AMD gets, Intel has been reigning supreme in the CPU market, even at the budget level where AMD CPUs are either matching or coming quite close to their Intel counter parts in terms of performance. I simply blame the reviewers who for the last 3 years have been behaving like if they own stock on Intel, praising Intel over AMD even for the slightest advantages creating a scenario where we now have a near monopoly in the industry.
With so little competition, Intel can now do what all monopolies get to do, and that is screw consumers with impunity without having to fear consequence. And there is simply not a better example of this than the latest CPU "micro-update" delivered through operating systems updates (to remove any chance of consumers bypassing it) that removes the over-clockability of any non-K CPUs. If this company would have had credible competition, they would be in real trouble right now, but unfortunately, with AMD nearly out of the equation, Intel just gets away with this. This so called "update" is actually a downgrade that if you happen to have an over clocked non-K Intel CPU it will make your computer fail at star-up into a blue screen of death. Bravo! Well done Intel, screw the community hard, because after all, the community was who crowned you supreme anyway, so a little punishment is in order right?
This stuff is hardly surprising, and it does makes me wait for AMD's Zen architecture even harder, but knowing that AMD is a nearly bankrupt company I know better than to give in to hope because more and more we are going to have to get used to the fact that at this rate there is going to be one CPU manufacturer in the industry and that's a huge excrement sandwich we are all gonna have to bite!
This knowledge was made possible by the "Tek Syndicate" so kudos to those guys for keeping the community informed!
