Hi Champions of Minellium city
As the title says im pretty new to this game these days, been away for a long time, when i left they still had R&D haha. just thought i would make my presence known, and say im looking for people to play with, i have a tendency to play mmo's alone, which kind of defeats the object of an mmo.
i usually stick to ranged dps on games but i feel like a change these days. so if anyone willing to help an old player out would be appreciated.

Those R&D things are worth a pretty penny these days.
1st, my in-game @handle's the same as my alias here, so you may easily find me.
2nd, I also went through the exercise of building something other than Ranged DPS. The game mechanics and the game meta (the Alert system, the players, etc.) simply favour Ranged DPS. Within that, certain Ranged DPS powers are clear winners; Two Gun Mojo remains the most popular go-to move, and it's not because people are unimaginative or love John Woo films. The way I gradually moved from that was via the new Stealth mechanics, which were probably not around when you last left.
Stealth comes from a new passive called Night Warrior, which has a move called Stealth and this backstab move, it's like 3 powers for the price of 1. When in Stealth, you go into this transparent Predator-esque appearance and sneaking stance, allowing you to move unseen past enemies like Batman. Then, your 1st attack, which will break the Stealth effect, but do a lot more damage. Combined with charge moves like Sniper, it's really awesome. Combined with the free backstab move or Ricochet Throw (another new move that seems almost deliberately designed for this Stealth mechanic), it's extra awesome.
Here's a sample starting template, still for a Ranged DPS, but with Stealth enabled:
Super Stats: Level 6: Dexterity (Primary) - Stealth scales with this Level 10: Constitution (Secondary) - always good to have, because your high damage will draw aggro Level 15: Intelligence (Secondary) - for energy management, which you'll find to be an issue later
Powers: Level 1: Gunslinger Level 1: Two-Gun Mojo (Rank 2, Rank 3) Level 6: Concentration
These are both go-tos for 3 reasons. 1st, they are go-tos, moves we are comfortable falling back on as Ranged DPS. 2nd, they will remain useful for other moves you'll want for this build. 3rd, they're the pre-requisite to get the next power...
Level 8: Night Warrior (Rank 2, Rank 3, Silent Running)
And this is where you get your Stealth capabilities and is listed under the Martial Arts trees. Which is funny, because imho they actually work better for a number of ranged or gadgeteering moves. This 1 power comes with a bundle of other moves, including Stealth, a sort of click toggle. When you break out of Stealth, you will revert back into Stealth automatically after about 3 seconds, it's very user-friendly. You also get a backstab move, which is so powerful when under Stealth, you do NOT need to trade-off being in Ranged DPS mode or getting Melee-Ranged Hybrid powers (like choosing Form of the Tempest over Concentration) for it; anything less than a boss would be instantly KO'd by it even in Ranged DPS mode.
Level 11: Ricochet Throw (Rank 2, Microelectronic Controllers)
An insanely damaging and insanely fun move that works hand-in-hand with Stealth, the ideal "alpha strike" move for breaking out of Stealth. It adds even more damage than usual, is a charge move so it benefits from you being unseen while charging, and has this hilarious bouncing-between-enemies mechanic which still cracks me up. It's one of those cartoon moments when you throw a boomerang pass a bad guy and he's all "HA! YOU MISSED" then it returns and hits him upside his head. Its main downside is how damaging it is; it will draw all the aggro in team-based Alerts, etc. You may actually want to turtle up with a good Block (like Energy Shield) after flinging it just to give your teammates a chance to do something and draw threat from you.
I know you didn't ask for this specifically, but it's things like THIS I wish someone told ME when I started with Freeforms. It's still Ranged DPS, but with a cool twist. I'll cya in-game.
