"The Crusaders" is the name of my fictional super hero team which operates out of a penthouse loft in Millennium City.
The team recently gathered for a portrait, which now hangs in the meeting room of the team's loft.
The lineup of The Crusaders is as follows:
Sentinel
Sentinel, aka Ryan Matthews, is a former PRIMUS Captain, who oversaw the PRIMUS R & D division, and was the head researcher for the Sentinel project. He holds degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Bioengineering and Nuclear Physics.
The Sentinel project was an initiative undertaken by PRIMUS to develop armored battlesuits for soldiers, in an effort to make the world less dependent on superheroes. Capt. Matthews was the first to test the suits, and during one field test, he was captured by VIPER. VIPER, under the guidance of Dr. Demogaard, attempted to reverse engineer the suit while it was still on Capt. Matthews. The suit fused itself to his body, and he has been unable to live without it ever since. With the help of James Harmon III and Harmon Labs, he was able to convert the suit to an “expandable metal array” which allows the suit to reduce down to a digital wristband, when not being used, and deploy itself from the same wristband when needed.
Capt. Matthews left PRIMUS when he was faced with the prospect of becoming a “lab rat” for PRIMUS scientists to study the suit and it’s fusion to his body. Heading home to Millennium City, he began to talk with Harmon, who suggested the suit could serve him well. Matthews took on the name Sentinel, in honor of the initial PRIMUS project, and has used it ever since, assisting Harmon in fighting crime in Millennium City. While he spends much of his time in Millennium City, his ultimate goal remains to bring Dr. Demogaard and VIPER to justice, by any means necessary.
After the recent Qularr invasion, he found himself in the company of Mr. Meltdown, Surge, American Gladiator and The Cardinal. They fought well together, and at the suggestion of The Cardinal, the 5 of them joined together and formed The Crusaders. Matthews purchased a loft in downtown to serve as the headquarters of The Crusaders. Sentinel serves as the defacto leader for the group, even though the leadership is by a committee of the members. Sentinel also serves as The Crusader’s lead scientist, and expert on all things armor and technology related.

American Gladiator
American Gladiator, aka Kevin Wright, is a lifelong athlete. Kevin took numerous individual honors in various sports in college, but an injury in football during his graduate year ended his hopes for a professional career.
2 years later, Kevin received an invitation to participate in the competition “American Gladiators.” Determined to win, Kevin took an experimental steroid serum to enhance his physical prowess. The serum increased his strength, toughness and speed ten-fold, and made him virtually indestructible. However, tragedy struck during the competition, and Kevin critically injured the Gladiator he faced. The judges discovered his illegal enhancement, and he was disqualified, while all professional sports issued a life-long ban.
Disgraced, and grief-stricken, Kevin became self-destructive, and eventually found himself in the nighttime streets of Westside, picking fights with gangs and thugs. He hoped to find someone, anyone, who could prove deadly enough to kill him. One night, he came across the hero known as Sentinel in a dark alley, his suit damaged, and Purple Gang thugs beating on him. Kevin came to his rescue, and fought off the attackers. Sentinel was able to console Kevin, and gave him new life, a life with direction and meaning. Outfitting Kevin with armor tailored to enhance Kevin’s ability as well as protect him from guns and edged weapons, Sentinel made him an ally.
In honor of the man he hurt, Kevin took the hero name American Gladiator. As the Gladiator, Kevin has made it his mission to make the world a better place, starting with Millennium City.
American Gladiator’s alliance with Sentinel, became the foundation for what would eventually become the group of heroes known as The Crusaders. Kevin’s girlfriend, the hero known as The Cardinal, also became a member, and the two are often found fighting side by side.

The Cardinal
The Cardinal, aka, Shelly Duvall, is a former World’s Champion archer, having won many titles competing against elite archers such as Oliver Queen of Star City and Clint Barton of New York City.
Shelly is involved in a romantic relationship with the hero known as American Gladiator, and 2 years ago, when American Gladiator took up crime fighting at the request of Sentinel, she developed a persona of her own, and took to the skies of Millennium City as The Cardinal. At first, American Gladiator didn’t approve, and tried his best to get her to stop, but she proved her skill to him time and time again, and they found each other fighting side by side more often than not.
The Cardinal is a founding member of The Crusaders, and it is a little known fact that it was initially her idea, when the Qularr invasion ended, and she found that she and American Gladiator were fighting side by side with some very skilled heroes. She suggested they team up, and Sentinel agreed, taking the idea and running with it. In tribute to her suggestion, Sentinel had a portrait of The Cardinal painted and hung in their headquarters loft, indicating The Cardinal as “The Founder, who makes our teamwork possible.”

Mr. Meltdown
Mr. Meltdown, aka Rick Westin, was a nuclear scientist working at Three Mile Island in 1979. In March of that year, the reactor in the Three Mile Island plant suffered a partial meltdown.
Rick was effected by the atomic radiation that leaked out, and soon found he had a latent heat within himself, which he could control and induce at will. At first, he wasn’t sure what to do with his life, and largely ignored his talents, using them more as party tricks to entertain guests. In 1983, Rick’s wife Lucinda was murdered in a home invasion robbery, and Rick began a quest to bring the perps to justice, as well as the perpatrators of other murders. It was also during this time that he discovered he was emitting radiation unknowningly, and had to wear a radiation suit from that point on, to protect others around him.
When he came to Millennium City, he met a hero named Sentinel, who helped to guide him and focus him in his quest for justice. It was Sentinel who originally gave him the nickname of Mr. Meltdown, after finding Rick's original name "Radioactive Man" not very original. Mr. Meltdown became a life-long friend of Sentinel, and a founding member of The Crusaders.

Surge
Surge, aka, Jim Ferris, is a young man from Ft. Worth Texas, whose life took an interesting detour during his senior year.
During shop class, lighting struck the school, and the power surged through the conduits and wiring in the building, striking Jim full force. He was in a coma for 3 weeks after the incident, and when he awoke, he discovered he had power and control over electrical forces. The same lighting strike affected his shop teacher, Mr. Garrett, who used his powers to go on a crime spree. Jim has been following Mr. Garrett across the country, trying to stop him.
When he came to Millennium City, he sought out the assistance of The Champions. However, the Champions did not approve of his "quest for revenge" as Kinnetik put it, and would not help him. He then met the hero Sentinel, who sensing the potential for greatness in him, took him on as an understudy hero-in-training, and gave him the hero name Surge. Surge went on to become a founding member of The Crusaders.
Surge's Picture: i1116.photobucket.com/albums/k571/StaavisRepublic/Champions%20Online/Surge_001.jpg
Ranger
Ranger, aka 1st Sergeant Thomas James “TJ” Howell, is a former NCO from Delta Force Bravo, PRIMUS Special Forces Command. TJ Howell is a weapons experts beyond all compare, trained in all manner of conventional weapons and high explosive ordinance. Before going AWOL, he was one of the most highly decorated Special Forces NCOs in PRIMUS.
During the recent Qularr invasion of Millennium City, 1st Sgt. Howell’s team was sent on a mission to plant a nuclear device near the Champion’s Headquarters building, which was to serve as the “contingency plan” should the Champions fail to defeat the Qularr.
However, Sgt. Howell disobeyed the order. Not willing to nuke the population of Millennium City, and instead putting his faith in the Champions, he hid the nuke after sabotaging the arming mechanism. His unit turned on him, and he was forced to retreat. He made his way towards downtown, where he encountered two heroes, Sentinel and Mr. Meltdown. The two escorted Sgt. Howell to safety, and drove off the remaining members of Delta Force Bravo.
Declared AWOL by PRIMUS, and being hunted by Delta Force Bravo, Sgt. Howell faked his death, and then went into hiding in Westside. Now, he goes by the hero name “Ranger.” Being a patriot, and not wanting to let his considerable skills go to waste, he has begun a one-man war against the newest threat to Millennium City, an organization known as VIPER. Ranger was invited by Sentinel to become a member of The Crusaders, and serves as their armory master.

The Spook
The Spook is a former CIA assassin who has gone MIA from the agency, and is now a member of the hero alliance called The Crusaders.
Two years ago, The Spook, then code named Sinister Shadow, was dispatched from Langley to track down a special forces Sergeant by the name of TJ Howell. Howell disobeyed orders during the Qularr invasion, then went AWOL in the aftermath. The CIA classified Howell as an enemy of the state, and put out the Red Op to have Howell taken out.
When Sinister Shadow caught up with his target, Howell was going by the name Ranger, and a member of the Crusaders. During his hunt for Howell, Sinister Shadow discovered the truth behind Ranger’s disobeying orders, and couldn’t bring himself to take out his target.
At this point, Sinister Shadow shed his agency affiliation and code name, dropped his Red Op, and went into hiding. He was later found by Ranger, who offered him a place among The Crusaders as an intelligence and infiltration specialist. He accepted, took on the hero name The Spook, and has been with the Crusaders ever since.

Cosmica
Cosmica, is a traveler of the galaxy, hailing from the distant Pegasus Galaxy. A recent attack on her people in the Gulvarius System, brought Cosmica to Earth, believing our world to be the source of the attack.
Recently, VIPER captured a telekinetic by the name of Adina Monroe, and in their attempt to induce her to reshape reality, she accidently attacked Gulvarius in her drug induced state, destroying the majority of Gulvarius’ people. Cosmica came to Earth to find Adina and put an end to her telekinetic powers.
During her time on Earth, she met an intrepid hero by the name of Sentinel. The two fell in love, and Cosmica decided to remain on Earth, rather than return to the Pegasus Galaxy. The two live together, and it is believed they will be married soon.
With her decision to stay on Earth, Sentinel invited Cosmica to join The Crusaders, where she assists the team with knowledge of all things outside of this world.

Thyrim
According to Norse mythology, Thyrm was the king of the realm of Jotunheim, and was killed by Thor, Heimdall and Loki. But the real story is far from the myth.
Thyrim, is one of the sons of Odin, and served Odin faithfully in the defense of Asgaard and in bringing peace to the 9 realms. However, during his last official campaign with the forces of Asgaard, Loki, with the help of Amora, turned on Thyrim, banishing him to the realm of Midgaard. Thor mistook Thyrim’s absence as a betrayal, believing Thyrim to have joined up with the Jotuns, as he was told by Loki. Odin, upon hearing Thor’s account, disavowed Thyrim, and the history of one of Asgaard’s mightiest warriors, fell into obscurity.
When Thyrim was banished by Loki and Amora, he was put into a deep slumber, which he only recently awoke from when his resting place in the Himalayas was disturbed by VIPER agents lead by Viperia, who were searching for lost relics of the gods.
Thyrim made a journey across the realm of Midgaard, to familiarize himself with this time and place. His journey ended in Millennium City, where he met Sentinel, who asked the Norse god to join The Crusaders. Thrusting his mace Frondahr into the air, he accepted, and has been a loyal and valued member of the group ever since. It is believed he will one day return to Asgaard to rejoin the gods, but until such time, he will serve the interests of man on this realm.
