I might consider buying this game eventually (single time fee with no sub-price is a big incentive to play an online game, plus seen lots of cool features mentioned so far). However, I have not seen anything about the most important feature of ALL... Appearance Customization - How is it like in GW2?
- What things do we get to customize about our characters? (Hair color, facial sliders, body sliders, etc.)
- Do we get to make changes after character creation, or do we need to be really carefull how we make them look from the start cuz once they're done they're set in stone?
- What about gear? Is it visible, and assuming that it is, do we get to customize how it looks, or do we get stuck with whatever drops we manage to find obscuring our characters?
What I've heard is the customization is more than Guild Wars 1, but less than Aion. (Haven't played both so don't know what that means) However I've read you could re-customize characters in GW1 via a cash shop so I assume it will be in again. Also you can dye your gear and each armor part has multiple sections that you can dye. there's also a way for you to completely transfer armor/weapon stats to a different armor or weapon so you can for example make your low level weapon stronger because it looks cooler to you aesthetically.

Appearance Customization How is it like in GW2? What things do we get to customize about our characters? (Hair color, facial sliders, body sliders, etc.) Very good indeed. Uses the same customization system as Aion, but held withing tighter limits to make sure characters don't deviate freakishly out of their species' norms. basic face/body options are available, with in depth sliders for the face for those who want them. Do we get to make changes after character creation, or do we need to be really carefull how we make them look from the start cuz once they're done they're set in stone? Currently, set in stone. What about gear? Is it visible, and assuming that it is, do we get to customize how it looks, or do we get stuck with whatever drops we manage to find obscuring our characters? Every time you complete an event, the event npc becomes a vendor for you, where you can spend karma (the currency for completing any event). They all have transmutation stones for purchase, which allow you to pick the appearance of one item and the stats of another. So if you want to play a drunken monk in rags, you can do what with end-game level stats on your rags. Furthermore, the game has over 400 separate dyes (not a typo. over 400). You start with a couple of dozen, others can be looted randomly or bought in the cash shop or on the in game market. Once you've unlocked a dye, it stays unlocked; you can apply it to any of the color channels on an item of clothing or armor at any time. Each piece of armor has between 2 and 4 channels. You can save your favorites to a pallet or just mix it up all tie-dye stylee. Once again, you apply those at any time - open your hero page, click "dyes" and start applying.

Nice! It may take some work (since I have to be really sure about my character's look before I start the game, then have to gather items in-game for customization), but I think think those are some appearance customization features I can live with. In-depth facial sliders, visible but customizable gear and 400 dye options sound like they could give plenty of options. I think I may check it out once I'm done with Skyrim. Thanks for your replies

Yeah the cash shop customozation in GW 1 is no biggie and it doesn't give you much other than the change to redo what you had at first, meaning is just a go back to the char creation screen thingy to change your hairdo, skin color, and chose another face from the generic ones there, char customization in GW 1 is quite obsolete by modern standards. However in GW2 is going to be wicked compared to GW 1, just don't espect something like Champions Online though, for some damn reason fantasy games usually don't go crazy on the char customization options which is the main reason why most people look alike in those games.

Ohhh, that seems like a really nice range of customization for a game with visible gear (or even one without it). I loved the Megan Fox female long hair option shown near the end (probably gonna get it for my main ;D)! Thanks for posting

Might be an outdated tidbit of info, but I seem to recall reading that dyes basically "wore off" after a month. But I question the validity of that nugget seeing that dye unlocks are account-wide... Suppose time will tell, as always.

Yup, you were basically selling me at this point, or anyone else reading (or merely discussing the game). I'm I already waiting on the bank transfer to my Paypal funds to buy the game.

Suppose time will tell, as always. Never seen any hint of that in anything I've read, nor any press beta or interview footage I've seen. Nor any other chance I may or may not have to experience the game in any other way thus far. It's not impossible of course but seems antithetical to the game's design philosophy. On the other hand, dye unlocks aren't account wide. At least, not in their present state.

I wouldn't put much stock into what I read. Can't for the life of me remember where I even read that, but it was long enough ago it could have very well been changed or speculation or even false troll-y rumors. Find myself terribly curious just what kind of dyes there are, if there truly IS over 400 available; matte, sure. Gloss, cool. Pearlescent and/or iridescent? Um... awesome, I guess, but sounds a bit over-the-top. XD
