so you say the mind is a "late bloomer", how late is "late"? ^^
I've made a mind character and I really like him (lvl 13 so far), but my motivation to play him is nearly 0, because I don't see where a healer is necessary. As I wrote in the census thread, my buddies and I play all missions on elite and we have no problems even without healer. So how long do I have to play the healer until he really becomes usefull?

30 is about when partying and tank/healing becomes really necessary. I had no problem with any of the AT's soloing up until then but it can be nearly impossible on missions like Teleios Tower. A healer there is amazing.

Actually I found that once you got your heal (empathic anyway) that I could just own groups of mobs about 1 level below. Set up Psi Lash on the biggest, Ego Sprites twice, charged Ego Blast biggest once or twice, Heal, Sprites twice and all the smaller ones are already dead leaving 1 or 2 'tapped' ego blasts to the bigger one. Level 18 and I've just been doing the radiation dome quests and yeah I'm 3 levels over but I can take on 10-12 irradiates at once with that kind of pattern. Also took down Fred Tough solo and that's meant to be a 3 hero job. That said and done it is more fun to team up with the guild and take down Mega Destroid, I'm at the back healing and dropping sprites and blast when I can. However I'm sidekicking up to level 40 then. I find it's actually a nice balance between offensive and healer, you can just about do either with a little care.

I think you can get the missions that lead up to Dr. Destroyer's Robot Factory as early as 25 or 26. Once you start running lairs like that, you will find that (especially in an AT group) a healer becomes important. As long as your tank has Challenging Strikes on an AOE power, you shouldn't have to worry too much about getting your face stoved in by aggro.

And, if you do get the aggro, then it means your team's free of it, so no need to heal them: just turtle up behind your telekinetic shield, alternating it with empathic healing on yourself for mere survival, while your team does the killing.

Dr Destroyer's lair was 28th level and recommended a team of 5. I was playing the Mind (28), and we had a Marksman (28), an Brawler (23?) and a Gold tank-type (24). So we went in under level and under staffed, but were were able to complete it, but we didn't have enough to also rescue Foxbat. We also had lots of defeats early on until we settled down and got serious. I think this was the first time all of us had to handle something this difficult in CO before. I am sure if I had not been playing the Mind, we would not have succeeded at the final battle.

Some people might be dissuaded from playing as a support Archetype such as the Mind or the Grimoire because the game seems easy enough without any help, but as you go later on into the game, things such as Lairs and other difficult spots practically require a support Archetype. When my group did Dr. Destroyer, I was playing on my Grimoire, and without my constant and dedicated heals, we would not have been able to complete that mission.

Thank you for this. Now I need a dictionary for some terms and I'm good to go. Lol, what terms are you referring to? The gamers shorthand. When players describe their character attacks/powers/builds and such. I understand buff/debuff and aggro, HoT, AoE, but other shorthand jargon like DPS etc. Trying to pick it up by reading the forums, but.... Also I must again thank you for the guide. I actually have 2 characters based on the MIND (One actually made it to 40) the other is ~19-20 and I retooled according to the guide. Actually doing well and managed to take out 2 bosses solo that my 1st character SURELY needed team mates to help out with. So thank you again.

I understand buff/debuff and aggro, HoT, AoE, but other shorthand jargon like DPS etc. Trying to pick it up by reading the forums, but.... Oh, I use "DPS" to mean "Damage Per Second". It's kinda redundant with plain ol' "damage", but I use it to avoid spamming the word "damage". Sorry about that! Anything else I can clear up? Also I must again thank you for the guide. I actually have 2 characters based on the MIND (One actually made it to 40) the other is ~19-20 and I retooled according to the guide. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask! That's what I, the other mods, and our established members are here for! But remember, what works best for you is what is best for you. I only give what I feel is good advice - if you discover that another method works better, or that your personal playstyle works best with other ideas than what I list, PLEASE feel free to disregard my advice (and let me know too - that way I can constantly update the guides to reflect the most accurate information )! OK Mind folks, I'm going gold just before my Mind AT Angela hits level 40 and I am toying with the idea of converting her to a Freeform AT and as I really like the Mind build I was going to try and replicate that but with the addition of 3 extra powers to add a little extra functionallity. I've basically set up the AT build I'm working for at level 40 but enhanced it by adding a basic Rez (Redemption), Group Heal (Vala's Light) and also Psionic Healing as I do sometimes miss having a better range on the heal, especially when one of the group leaps on ahead without me. So here's the build and basically I'd be interested if anyone have any comments or suggestions. This is my first time with ChampionBuilder so I know the powers are not quite in the right order, they are all there though. Very nice guide, I would encourage people to take rank 2-3 in TP while leveling up though. Its much more noticable than lets say, rude awakening.
