Notes: This is a jack-of-all-trades Tank build that can fit into nearly ANY team composition. Great build for those that like to charge forward, devoid of any fear and BE the frontline in battle. It has quickly become my favorite build to play among my many alts. I hope the info helps. Feel free to post questions & comments! Build Strengths: This build was made specifically to generate enough Threat to Tank for High DPS teammates while also having enough survivability to handle nearly any situation. I have yet to lose threat to any DPS. I never have to ask any DPS to slow down. It can also shield and heal teammates very effectively. This build works with or without a Support player in the party. The DPS is also high for a tank build that offers Support as well. This allows for very flexible party options. The build also excels in Solo play. It can solo Elite Resistance MegaDestroids and any Elite Adventure pack or mission. Build Weaknesses: Not built for DPS/PVP. No real ranged options; build requires some form of flight to combat flying enemies. Consecutive High damage spikes can give INV problems. Protector Role: Grants a 20% HP bonus and Increased Threat Generation. - Stats Distribution:SS DEX: Increase Crit % and Damage Bonus/energy return from Form of the Tempest SS PRE: Increase Threat reduction/Heals/Shields, and energy returns through Thermal Reverberation. Gear EGO: Increase Crit Severity Gear CON: Increase HP - Offense:Form of the Tempest: Damage Buff; Depending on DEX this can give 15-19% damage bonus per stack with yellow/blue gear. 8 stacks = 120-152% bonus. This can even go higher with premium gear. Energy return on Crits once per 4 seconds. Dragon's Wrath: Single Target Attack. Full charge grants 15 Energy per second Rush Buff. Tap spam when you need DPS. Devour Essence: Single Target Attack. Highest Threat Generator in the build. Also helps to heal the little damage you do take. Sword Cyclone: AE Damage and AE Threat. - Defense:Parry: Elusive Monk grants Dodge/Avoidance buff. This works on a different layer of defense than INV. Invulnerability: Literally makes you invulnerable to anything less than Bosses. You will laugh at swarms no matter how large. Bionic Shielding: Great emergency heal when you lose a large chunk of life. You can keep it on your teammates to negate some AE damage they may take. Protection Field: Shield yourself and your team preemptively to negate incoming damage. Protects you against the large spikes that are the weakness of INV. Great when used as an emergency bandaid before Empathic Healing. Empathic Healing: High Single Target Maintain Heal. It is not often that mobs can outdamage the heal that this outputs. Unbreakable: Panic Button; buys you time to heal w/o worrying about any more incoming damage Inertial Dampening Field: Team Buff to decrease damage taken by a flat amount. - Utility:Thermal Reverb + Flashfire, FotTempest, Charged Dragon's Wrath: : Provides enough energy to constantly spam all of your attacks and defenses w/o reliance on your Energy Builder. Pffft, I've seen this build in action. It doesn't hold aggro that well... Hey! How come nobody's attacking me? Over here! Can't you see me?! P.S. Should I be adding your newer builds to the directory too?

I wonder how Threat works in this game RPwise. Is the Tank talking trash to the Enemy; making the Enemy lose his cool and causing him to retaliate against the Tank?
I like to imagine that Sequoia is a MOB whisperer: calming the Enemy and lulling him into forgetting about all of those other super-heroes tossing hot plasma and rockets at his face and all of the little ones sticking dangerously pointy things into his toes.

That's one thing I love about playing Lost Airman www.champions-online.com/character_profiles/6895789/viewHe's a behemoth so you can really see the taunt animations when the mobs are out of range and I can just imagine him making 'yo momma' taunts.

I've tanked many lairs using the above (with some of my advice i've given above), no health prob, no aggro holding prob, everything went very well

2: i'd drop devour essence too to get er... another blade attack that has crippling challenge to spam.... Couple of questions. 1) What blade power provides a PRE-scaled self heal while attacking and also tics every .5 seconds to apply crippling challenge repeatedly? Any power I can think of would be less efficient overall than devour essence rather than more so. 2) How is Bionic Shielding to replace Protection Field if it's already in the build? Did you mean Bountiful Chi replacing Protection Field? Do you think Bionic Shielding protects and heals teammates better than placing a protection field on them and crit healing them with Empathic Healing?

1) Well, as for a dual-blade tank of mind, so i chose the blade power has crippling challenge instead So you're suggesting Storm Harvest over Devour Essence? 2) As i go through some lairs, i gain most of the threat , so my teammate doesn't have to worry about them gainning aggro anymore, so there's little chance for them to die Depending on what you're fighting you don't have to have aggro to be hit and die. Some of the bosses have powerful AOEs and having a support tank that can assist the squishier DPSers can be very valuable regardless of who is holding the threat.

So you're suggesting Storm Harvest over Devour Essence? 1) Yes, it's an AoE, so it also taunt a group if Sword Cyclone doesn't gain enough threat Storm Harvest isn't an AOE, it's a single target attack which is why it has crippling challenge. Cripping Challenge is on single target attacks and Challenging Strikes is on AOEs. Also Storm Harvest has a slower activation time than Devour Essence while doing around the same damage and doesn't heal. So it's not healing and it's generating less threat then Devour Essence. It also costs more to spam.

Laser Knight vs Elusive Monk: Either option gives roughly the same reduction in damage taken; they are more or less interchangeable. Laser Knight's damage output penalty is slightly more. Parry w/EM is chosen in this build due to theme and power prerequisite restraints.
Storm's Harvest vs Devour Essence Devour Essence has the following in its favor: 25% more damage; 34% more CC ticks; Heal component.
Storm's Harvest has a Root instead of a Snare. Storm's Harvest would be a good pick for Dual Blade thematic reasons.
They have nearly the same energy consumption. Either can be chosen and made to work, but from a pure gaming perspective Devour Essence is much stronger.
This build actually started with Devour Essence as the central theme. I wanted to create a build that used all of its unique properties: Heal while attacking; CC carrier; good damage. These qualities combine to make it one of the highest threat output powers in the game (second only to Defensive Combo). Added SS Pre to increase the Heal and Threat output. Added SS Dex + FotT to increase its Damage output. The build has enough energy management to continuously use it without many breaks.
"empathic healing wouldn't be so good here, as you have to attack to hold agro all the time, maybe someone heals on your back would be better" This build does not require constant attacks to hold aggro; even with high DPS teammates. I am usually so far ahead in Threat gain, that I have time to ProtField+BioShield the entire team to prevent damage from AEs and Emp heal in emergencies.
EmpHeal is the highest practical single target HPS heal. This build can heal nearly as strong as a Support Champ, all while Main Tanking as well.
The luxury of having a dependable Support player on the team allows me to focus on DPS instead.
BCR with Resurgent reiki: IMO is worthless unless it is with LR or another high dodge build. Its base HPS is one of the lowest in the game.

So, love the build want to use it... but am I going to be able to level using this build? I'm worried about no AoE attack until 26. I want to be able to run through AP content as I level as well. Any thoughts?

Hey sparkrocker, I actually just leveled this build to the high 20s yesterday without any retconning or w/e. I didn't find the lack of aoe until 26 to be a problem. I'd recommend utilizing fully-charged dragon's wrath more often early on in the levels because you'll need the energy before you get the flashfire + therm. reverb combo (though the form definitely helps). This is really a heck of a build, I'm having loads of fun on Galatea. Great work!

Thanks for bringing up the leveling aspect. I forgot to add a section for that. If you don't mind spending a full retcon once at 40, you can use the following build to level very effectively. Even if you do not retcon, this build will still be very effective. You will be losing the damage mitigation that Parry w/Elusive Monk provides; roughly ~20-25% reduction of the reduced amount after all other defenses are considered; about 5-10% reduction of total raw incoming damage.
Sequoia Leveling Build
: Level 40 Champion
Superstats: Level 6: Super Presence Level 13: Super Dexterity
Powers: Level 1: Rain Of Steel Level 1: Form of the Tempest -- Rank 2 Level 6: Inexorable Tides -- Rank 2, Rank 3 Level 6: Superspeed Level 8: Dragon's Wrath -- Tiger's Courage, Rank 2 Level 11: Invulnerability -- Rank 3, Rank 2 Level 14: Bionic Shielding -- Rank 3, Rank 2 Level 17: Devour Essence -- Crippling Challenge, Rank 2 Level 20: Empathic Healing -- Rank 3, Rank 2 Level 23: Thermal Reverberation Level 26: Flashfire Level 29: Sword Cyclone -- Rank 2, Rank 3, Challenging Strikes Level 32: Protection Field -- Rank 3, Rank 2 Level 35: Unbreakable Level 35: Flight Level 38: Inertial Dampening Field
Talents: Level 1: Quick Trigger Level 6: Shooter Level 9: Acrobat Level 12: Ascetic Level 15: Finesse Level 18: Showmanship Level 21: Shrug It Off
This provides effective AE damage at lvl 6; Inexorable Tides does about 10% less damage than Sword Cyclone, but also provides a KnockUp. I prefer Sword Cyclone in general for its ability to move while maintaining; this allows you to aggro and damage a large number of mobs very quickly.
You can even skip Sword Cyclone for Parry w/Elusive Monk @29 if you do not plan to retcon @40 and want to have the extra defense at the sacrifice of the more flexible AE damage.
Moved Flashfire to lvl 26 for earlier improvement in energy management since AE damage is already covered.
I appreciate your interest in the build. I am glad it is being put to use and curious to see your results from leveling this build. Feel free to post more comments or questions. Thanks!
