Hi everybody,
I'm playing a Silver AT and I'm interested in PVP. I'm interested to find-out where would be a good place to 'gear up' at lvl40? Specific mobs, bosses or quests?
Thank you!

Adventure Packs set to Very Hard generally provide some of the best loot in the game. Serpent Lantern is faster to farm but more boring, Demonflame is slower to farm but more fun.
Nemesis and UNITY missions provide some nice Purple-quality Primary slot upgrades, but they take a while to earn the tokens for. The secondary items aren't as good as Adventure Pack secondaries, though.
If your crafting is high, you can make some blue-quality level 38 items with customized stats. These items are almost as good as level 40 blue items, and will tied you over for a little while until you get items from the above two suggestions. You may also want to consider items that give you +100% Perception, which will help you see through enemy player stealth.
The cosmic bosses on Monster Island sometimes drop useful gear, and my best primary defense came from Mega-Terrak on MI.
Otherwise, one of the best places to get gear is the Auction House.

WOW thanks for the detailed post!Looks like I will be busy for sometime with this!
I had heard the rumour in zone chat that crafted items weren't up-to-par compared to looted items but I was clueless where to get good gear.
Thanks you!

Crafted gear has been largely pushed to the side with the advent of AP's and Very Hard/Elite mode drops having ramped up stats. They are distinctly inferior to the AP gear, but of course, you need to be able to get that gear (and win the roll, if you're not alone). One factor that makes AP gear so desired is that it ignores stat restrictions on slots that most random drop and crafted gear must obey. This opens up some flexibility for your stat building, but can be difficult to manage and be costly.
If you're doing Monster Island and Vibora Bay, there are some high level blue and green rewards (and a very strong purple reward at the end of MI) that you can supplement with crafted gear until such time that you can start either buying or earning better gear from Nemesis, UNITY, and AP's.
Ultimately, your character will perform very well once you have a full selection of standard blue quality gear. Purples and AP Blues just add a finishing touch to your character. It's not like the difference between, say, a WoW 5-man Blue Dungeon Set and Epic Tier gear. You're not gimped by not having the BEST gear.
